------------------

BAD TIMING PENALTY

Ethan Moreau - The awesome Captain took a stupid penalty in the 2nd (which was later followed by a Potulny delay of game, but was an accident).  He interfered with Luongo and had to go sit for two.  Yes folks... another offensive zone penalty.  The Canucks scored on the 5 on 3 and then again on the 5 on 4.  Thanks Captain. Great Leading.

GAME STAT SHEET

------------------

BEERS

None - None deserving of a beer.

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Jeff Deslauriers (He had a good game other than the PP goals scored on him. The team could have scored to help him out.), Gilbert Brule (I thought he was pretty good. While other Oilers were dragging along, he was busting his ass.), Ryan Potulny (He scored the Oilers only goal with a nice/lucky shot.  Mind you that's all he did.), Gilbert/Souray Combo (They have been pretty good together lately and tonights game was no different. I liked them.), Zack Stortini (He had a pretty good tilt with Rick Rypien.  Probably a draw.)

------------------

JEERS

The EntireTeam - You guys sucked.  You are now on a six game losing streak.  You guys left your goalie hung out to dry.  In two games you have two goals. WTF? Boooooo!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): The Coaching Staff (Why do you guys insist on changing the lines all the time?  Leave Brule with Penner.  Leave Stone and Nilsson together.  And for god sakes... quit putting out Moreau and Staios in the 3rd period. They keep blowing games with stupid penalties.)

OUR GAME SUMMARIES

Smokin' Ray - 6th loss in a row. *sigh*
Paq Twinn - He missed the game.

B&J #89 Edmonton Oilers vs San Jose Sharks Recap (11/27/09)

Welcome to Oilers Jambalaya - An Edmonton Oilers Hockey Blog. Beers & Jeers is a dual collaboration between Smokin' Ray and Paq Twinn. We hope you enjoy our Edmonton Oilers full game recap.

------------------

- Who's Out? Who's in? Here's the injury report.  Ales Hemsky is out for the rest of the season and his shoulder is going to have to be operated on.  Luckily for the Oilers, more players are getting set to return to the line up.

- Dany "the Douche Bag" Heatley was greeted with a nice boo from the crowd.  Jacques hit him, Souray hit him and a few other guys did as well.  It was nice to see.

------------------

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

------------------

FINAL SCORE

San Jose Sharks - 5

Edmonton Oilers - 4

------------------

BAD TIMING PENALTY

None -

------------------

BEERS

Gilbert Brule - Mr. Brule gets Hemsky's spot on the 1st line with Gagner and Penner and steps right in like he's always been there. In fact he may have looked better than Hemsky has with those two. Brule said that he likes to play with Penner because he knows how to find him. He's right. He scores tonight on an assist from Penner. They had a few good chances. Not only did Brule score a goal and pick up an assist, he also had three blocked shots. Frosty beer for Brew.  Cheers!

Ryan Potulny - With the departure to Reddox back down to the minors it only meant that Potulny was not only going to be staying long term with the Oilers, but he's going to get a chance to succeed. Reddox just doesn't have the overall game that Potulny has. Tonight he was awesome. A big time player who busted his hump and made good things happen. He didn't wait for chances to come to him... he made them. He had two goals and was a +2.  It's Miller Time. Cheers!

Dustin Penner - He was a quiet guy in the first half of the game and then all of a sudden, he wakes up. Once he got his legs going he played well like he has all year. He is going to have to continue his strong play if the Oilers want to be competitive for the rest of the season. Luckily for Oiler fans, he showed it in the last half of the game and the Oilers had a great end to the game. He had a goal and a assist that was some nice play making with Brule. He also went 8W-5L=62% on the faceoffs. Good night for Penner.  He deserves a cold one.  Cheers!

Andrew Cogliano - Speedy Gonzales was ripping around tonight. Maybe he had something to prove to Heatley? Maybe not. He only had two shots but he created a lot of space out there for the others to go to. He was a +2 and seems to be playing with confidence. He really hustled and out worked the sharks all night. He seems to be responding to the coaching staff as of late and it's showing.  This calls for a Bud. Cheers!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): JF Jacques (He had some great hits and made the Sharks aware when he was on the ice.), Tom Gilbert (He played pretty good and he played tough.  Nice to see an improvement.)

------------------

JEERS

Sheldon Souray - Holy cow! Souray was a train wreck. It all started when he went and took a run at Heatley in the first five minutes and pushed him down. Sweet thing to do (we all love you for it) but he went way out of position and bing, boom! San Jose goal. Not so sweet. After that it was one thing after another. He took a penalty shortly after the San Jose goal and gives them more life. He was a major culprit on why this team was so bad in the first half of the game. He was on the ice for every single Sharks goal along with Staios. So he ends up a -4 and somehow only takes one shot. (Well one shot hit the net and three were missed shots. So four in total) And... he takes a penalty in overtime with a careless high-sticking call. It was just a bad game for Souray. He will bounce back tomorrow night. *fingers crossed*  BOOOOO!

Steve Staios - He was on for all 4 San Jose goals along with Souray. That alone is worth a 2. However he did play average for the most part and made some good (4) shot blocks. But it just seemed like he was running around and never really played with Souray effectively. He seemed like he was in over his head and he was drowning quick. Glug!  BOOOOO!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Jeff Deslauriers (He wasn't great tonight.  He needs to be better at screens and the high shots.)

-------------------

GOAT WATCH

(Smokin' Ray) Ethan Moreau - He did pretty good.  Not much to complain about.

(Paq Twinn) Robert Nilsson - Did not play

-------------------

OUR GAME SUMMARIES

Smokin' Ray - That was a tough game to lose.  The Oilers need to find a way to win in a close game.

Paq Twinn - coming soon

Graham Martin -That was easily the worst game I have ever seen Souray play. He didn't even move on the tying goal. And what defensemen chases a forward all the way out to the damn blueline?? On the plus side, I thought that Smid was much better than the 5 you gave him, and I thought that JFJ was pretty good last night. And Brule was fantastic, but he just shows up every single game and plays his ass off. I wish we had a whole team of guys like him!

Best Faceoffs - Penner (7W-8L=47%)
Worst Faceoffs - Potulny (2W-6L=25%)

------------------

BEERS

Lubomir Visnovsky - A solid game by Lubo.  He only made one error and other than that he was great.  He picked up 2 assists and was a +3 at the end of the game.  If it wasn't for the error, it was a perfect game.  Here's a nice cold Bud. Cheers!

Ales Hemsky - He also played one heck of a game.  He was making crisp passes and fairly decent decisions.  He scores a goal and adds an assist for a two point night.  He's starting to catch Penner in points.  You know he's playing well when he fires 4 shots at the goalie.  It's Old English time! Paper bag and all.  Cheers!

Dustin Penner - The big guy may not have had any points, but he did good.  His screening is top notch and he's been pretty good in the crease area.  Never mind the fact that he is leading the team in faceoff wins.  Can he do it all?  A Pilsner for the Manitoba boy.  Cheers!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Sam Gagner (He scores a crucial goal and gives the team life.), Patrick O'Sullivan (He gets the monkey off his back and scores the game winner.), Ryan Potulny (The hard work pays off and he pots the tying goal.), Ladislav Smid (His +3 was a team best.  He's plays so mean it's fun to watch.), Gilbert Brule (He's been good for a few games now.  He had a goal and an assist.), Sheldon Souray (He sent a message to the Avs that fae hitting in not cool.  He played pretty good.)

------------------

JEERS

Tom Gilbert - He was brutal.  The first two goals were on his shift and both times he was weak at taking out his check.  Quinn then benched him for awhile and then gave him another chance where he picked up an assist on the Potulny goal.  Let's hope he understands the message.  For a bad game, Boooooo!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Jeff Deslauriers (He needs to smarten up and learn how to be sharp more consistaanly.)

-------------------

GOAT WATCH

(Smokin' Ray) Ethan Moreau - He was playing ok... till his bell was rung.

(Paq Twinn) Robert Nilsson - Still not playing because of his concussion.

-------------------

OUR GAME SUMMARIES

Smokin' Ray - What a game by the Oilers.  They were crappy for half a game and then funally picked up the pace and pulled out the win.  Deslauriers needs to play more so he doesn't look so rusty.  Besides, I thought he was going to play 20-25 games this year?  I'm hoping the Oilers can get it together in time for the Chicago game.  They have a history of beating the Oilers. Badly.

Paq Twinn - Ya, good win boys. Oilers started slow but got stronger as the game went on. JDD let in some bad ones, but didn't let in the "next one", when the team was making their come back. That was HUGE. Speaking of huge, the PK had some timely kills. The PP continued to be Hot/Cold, tonight it was cold. The 1st line didn't play well in general tonight. Brule had a good game as did Smid, Penner, O'Sullivan, Gagner and Potulny. But pretty much everyone looked average. No one stood out to me tonight. Game Grade B.

- Hemsky, Jacques, Smid, Souray, Horcoff, Pouliot, and Stone are all injured so the Oilers called up Ryan Potulny and Liam Reddox.  Both will play in this game.

- I really am getting concerned with all the games that they have Khabibulin playing in so far.  He's only supposed to play around 55 games and he's on pace for a lot more than that.

GOAT WATCH

(Smokin' Ray) Ethan Moreau - He was average.  Nothing I could really get mad at.  But seeing a guy like Potulny, it makes me want to get rid of him that much more.

(Paq Twinn) Robert Nilsson - He played ok.  He had an assist and probably didn't piss off Quinn much tonight.  But he still sucks.

GAME STAT LEADERS

Most Blocked Shots - Staios (4 blocked shots)
Best Faceoffs - Gagner (12W-7L= 63%)
Worst faceoffs - Brule (2W-6L=25%)

------------------

BEERS

Tom Gilbert - He actually looked like a legit NHL player tonight.  He made very little mistakes and was actually good.  Like real good.  I was shocked.  He scores his 1st of the season and also picks up an assist.  Stellar performance for a guy that has not been good in my eyes this year.  It's about time.  How about a Molson Canadian? Cheers!

Ryan Potulny - For a call up he rocked.  He scores on the PP and picks up an assist.  He was really good.  Maybe it was just the excitement of being called up, but he sure looked ready for the chance.  He's even rockin' a Movember mustache.  Sweet.  Great stuff tonight Potsy.  How about a first ever beer from B&J?  Cheers!

Patrick O'Sullivan - I was glad that he at least picked up an assist.  He's been busting his hump this year and has been snake bitten for the most part.  He took three of shots and really tried to do all the little things right.  He had 3 blocked shots and played an enormous 22:18 of ice time.  It think he's thirsty after that game.  How about a frosty Coors lite?  Cheers!
Sam Gagner - With Horcoff out, Gagner steps in and shows why he is the future of this franchise.  Not only did he pick up an assist, he ran the PP with ease and dominated in the faceoff circle.  Wow!  The guy stands up once again and says "Here I am, take notice".  Great game Gags.  It's Miller Time. Cheers!

Dustin Penner - He just keeps adding to his point totals.  Two more points tonight with a goal and an assist.  Am I surprised anymore? No.  Penner for Team Canada!!!  It's Bud chuggin' time.  Cheers!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Zack Stortini (The big guy started the emotion early and played well.), Liam Reddox (Not a bad night for the MacT fart sniffer.  He picks up an assist and had a team high, 4 hits.), Mike Comrie (The Duffman played good.  But like I said at the beginning of the season, he's only good in the first half of a game.), Lubomir Visnovsky (He was good.  He maybe missed Smid out there a little.  He's just such a fast skater it's crazy.), Jason Strudwick (He was physical and played ok. 2 hits and  3 blocked shots), Steve Staios (+1 and an assist.  He does that and 4 blocked shots.  Where's the real Steve?), Andrew Cogliano (He scores a goal and breaths a sigh of releif.  The Oilers need more games like this from him.)

------------------

JEERS

Taylor Chorney - He played ok, but finished the game a team worst -3.  Maybe it was because Quinn has a lot of confidance in him right now and he was out a lot.  But to beat a team 5-3 and still end the game at -3 stinks.  That means you were on the ice for every goal against.  Not a good night in my books.  Booooo!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Nikolai Khabibulin (He was caught out of his crease a few times.  As good as he's been lately, he wasn't all that hot tonight.)

-------------------

OUR GAME SUMMARIES

Smokin' Ray - That was a much better game from the Oilers.  It was their effort level.  They actually had one.  It's about freaking time.  It's kind of sad when you realize that Reddox was the hit leader on this team tonight.  Seriously, what kind of damage could he really do?  Habby (I seen it on his helmet) didn't look great tonight and so it's lucky that the team potted five goals.  But a win is a win and I/we should feel good once again.  GOILERS!

B&J #79 Edmonton Oilers Recap vs. New York Rangers (11/5/09)

Horcoff and Souray.  Horcoff has shoulder problems and will be out 7-10 days (from what I know) and Souray skated yesterday and today so that's good a good sign.  He will still be out for awhile.

- When is Deslauriers going to play again?  How is he going to play 20 games this year when he's seen very little action so far this season?  The team stinks right now anyways so why not?  They may play harder with the back up in net.

- I still can't believe that my cable bill is going to kill me next month right before Christmas.  4 PPV's in 6 games.  Why?  And the NHL wonders why people watch the games for free on their PC's.  And the worst part is... we pay $13.95 for lackluster efforts.  PPV's are always bad games for the Oilers.  I just might start watching them for free too.

BAD TIMING PENALTY

Ethan Moreau - Just when the team is trying to mount a comeback, you push a guy down and the puck is no where near you.  WTF were you thinking?  Did you not notice that the team was sucking bad anyways on the PK?  Or is this your way of taking the team (bull) by the horns?  ps. It didn't work.

------------------

GOAT WATCH

(Smokin' Ray) Ethan Moreau - He did nothing to contribute. Plus he tops it off with the BTP of the game.  Baaaad effort.
(Paq Twinn) Robert Nilsson - He also did nothing to contribute to this team.  Well... other than some bad errant passes.  When is he going to go on waivers?

------------------

BEERS

Sam Gagner - He played like he was 200lbs.  Quinn wants guys to go to the "tough" areas and Gagner does just that.  He was the guy that was taking the beating so the team might have a chance of a screen or a rebound.  I really think that this kid is going to be the "man" for the Oilers in the next 2 years.  He has a ways to go, but when he gets there he is going to be scary good.  Good effort tonight Gags.  Budweiser?  Cheers!

Patrick O'Sullivan - He did everything he could tonight, well, other than score.  But he did get an assist on the Comrie goal.  He really needs to watch his turnovers.  He had 3 tonight.  But I really like his full out effort that he shows just about every game.  If this team is going to suck, then it's hard to blame guys that try hard.  A mug o' beer?  Cheers!

Taylor Chorney - I just don't see him getting demoted now to 7th guy when Smid comes back in.  And honestly, I don't see him losing a spot when Souray comes back.  I'm expecting a trade from the Oilers soon.  This kid is for real.  He played a real solid game tonight and had 3 blocked shots.  He was flawless.  Frosty beer time?  Cheers!

Lubomir Visnovsky - He's so damn good that it makes me wonder why LA gave him up.  I'm glad we have him.  I've never seen anyone catch Gaborik like that.  This is our best guy on D until Souray gets back.  He scores a beauty while taking 4 shots and had 2 takeaways and 2 blocked shots.  He's freaking great.  Enjoy a cold beer Lubo. Cheers!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Ales Hemsky (He had the moves and the energy, but faded half ways in the game), Tom Gilbert (He played a lot and looked ok), Denis Grebeshkov (Played well, he just sucked at penalty killing.), Andrew Cogliano (He was flying out there. He managed 6 shots but couldn't score.)

------------------

JEERS

Robert Nilsson - He managed to be the only person on the team that ended up a -1.  Yay!  Seriously, get rid of this guy.  He makes the most asinine plays that I have ever seen.  Blind passes DO NOT WORK.  How is he getting minutes and MacIntyre gets 1:40?  I say to the minors with you. Booooo!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Ethan Moreau (He had the BTP and was invisible but led the team in hits. Go figure?), Fernando Pisani (Bad penalties and a bad game.)

-------------------

OUR GAME SUMMARIES

Smokin' Ray - I'm getting sick of this already.  WTF Oilers?  This is getting old.  Does Quinn need to crack the whip and shake up things again?  I'd send Nilsson packing and send a message to the team that enough is enough.  Either crap or get off the pot.  This team will never win unless all the players are going to show up.  These last 7 games... the Oilers have not.  Boooo!!!

Paq Twinn - Another bad effort by the Oilers. How many of these games before Tambo makes a move. The 1st line played good tonight, and the 2nd had their moments, the D weren't that bad either. Everyone else had bad games. How long will it take, to learn how to clear the puck. The wingers are too deep, trying to help, and then they give up point shots. Its a vicsous circle that has to stop for this team to succeed. Game Grade: D.

B&J #75 Edmonton Oilers Recap vs Vancouver Canucks 10/25/09

Welcome to Oilers Jambalaya - An Edmonton Oilers Hockey Blog. Beers & Jeers is a dual collaboration between Smokin' Ray and Paq Twinn. We hope you enjoy our Edmonton Oilers full game recap.

------------------

- Well Brule and JDD get back into the lineup tonight.  Brule has been sick and missed the last 3 games and JDD finally gets a start after Khabibulin lost last night to the fLames.  Still no Mike "Duffman" Comrie.  This must be a bad flu if guys are missing this many games.

- The loss still stings from last nights game.  Don't the Oilers know that we have to go to work on Monday and get ridiculed by fLame fans everywhere?  Three times we lost to them already.  Enough is enough.

- If you guys feel like talking hockey anytime, look us up on Facebook. (Smokin' Ray) (Paq Twinn)  We are always around.

BAD TIMING PENALTY

None - I know... I'm surprised as well.

------------------

GOAT WATCH

(Smokin' Ray) Ethan Moreau - Not sure why Quinn doesn't just give his spot to Stortini on the 3rd line?  Moreau is just not that effective anymore.

(Paq Twinn) Robert Nilsson - Average at best tonight.  I'm sure he's counting down his days as an Oiler.  When the other guys are ready to return, I'm sure he's as good as gone.

------------------

BEERS

None - No one was worthy of a beer tonight. The Oilers sucked. So instead, the Oiler fans get the beer.  We need it for the wasted weekend of misery.  Kegger for the people!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): The 1st Line (They were the best Oilers tonight.  It's too bad that the defence pairings (77 & 37) that played with them for a lot of the time were not very good or it could have made a difference.), Zack Stortini (Once again he plays a good game and bleeds from a fight.), Jeff Deslauriers (Actually wasn't that bad.  He didn't get any help from the team while making 27 saves.), Ladislav Smid (He is turning into a consistent defenseman.  Played another solid game.), Lubomir Visnovsky (He also played pretty good.  He needs to play more of a simple game.)

------------------

JEERS

The Entire Team - That was the second bad effort in a row.  It's very disappointing to see a club that is as good as they have seen lately, just to crap it up in two straight games against divisional rivals.  Just terrible.  You can only use the flu excuse for so long then it becomes redundant.  I don't want to hear it anymore, we need some action, some effort.  Booooooo!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Denis Grebeshkov (The worst of the worst. Mr. Losethepuck), Tom Gilbert (The 2nd worst of the worst)

-------------------

OUR GAME SUMMARIES

Smokin' Ray - The bright side of this game?  The shot total wasn't a 2 to 1 ratio.  The dark side? We lost.  Again. And to a divisional rival.  Again.  *sigh* I can not believe it.  I guess the new 1st line can't blow every team out of the water every game.  The absolute worst part of this game?  Getting shutout. Grrrr.

Paq Twinn - Well that was a stinker. Luongo was good, but the Oilers made him look better. No sustained pressure, no bodies in front. Gilbert had another bad game, and Grebs struggled too. Maybe the trade rumors are getting to them, but they need to be better with Souray and Staios out. JDD played a solid game, but like last night for Khabi, the rest of the team didn't help out much. I give this game a D grade. Get better cause the Avs are good this year. We can't lose 3 in a row.

Beers and Jeers #63 (Sept 24/09 vs. Tampa Bay Lightning)

After a disappointing last two games, the Oilers tun it up here and actually played a good game.  There was so many bright spots and a little low spots.  Pat Quinn has his job cut out for him.  This isn't some make a change and POOF, Stanley Cup Champion.  Faceoffs are killing this team in the pre-season and I don't see it changing.

------------------

Tonight's Starting Lines

Moreau — Gagner — Cogliano
Penner — Schremp — Eberle
Nilsson — Brule — Stone
MacIntyre — Reddox — Stortini

Grebeshkov — Staios
Chorney — Gilbert
Smid — Visnovsky

Deslauriers and Dubnyk

----------------------

FINAL SCORE

Edmonton Oilers - 3
Tampa Bay Lightning - 4  OT

----------------------

Bad Timing Penalty™

Steve Staios - What kind of a leader checks a guy from behind in front of his own net and the play is already headed back the Oilers way?  Steady Steve, that's who.  Good god man.  The Lightning get a PP chance with 10 seconds left in overtime. To top it off, the ensuing faceoff was located in the Oilers zone.  Faceoff win by the TBL and wham boom!  Game over on a St. Louis goal.  ~Atta boy Steve.~

-----------------------

BEERS

Andrew Cogliano - The kid was flying on the wing.  He seemed pretty happy to be with Gagner again and it showed.  It was nice to see that pairing passing and skating together.  It was nice to see them "find" each other.  For awhile there, the Kid line was back together one last time (maybe not?!?). Even Nilsson looked good with them and he hasn't been great at all.  Seeing the three kids again made a little sad that that may never happen again.  But for tonight's hard working effort... have a cold one on me Cogs.  Cheers!

Gilbert Brule - He wasn't flashy at all but he played a heck of a game.  He was solid in his own end and did manage to have some chances on the rush.  I was surprised to see him play like this.  Good to see "some" players still want to "make the team."  I think ol' Gil deserves a frosty for the effort.  Cheers!

Dustin Penner - The Flying Fridge no more.  He was finishing checks and playing his butt off.  It was nice to hear Quinn say before the game that he was one of his better players so far in the pre-season.  That's a huge compliment for a guy that was the coaches toilet paper last season.  For another solid game... a super sized beer for a super sized effort.  Cheers!

Tom Gilbert - He was definitely the best of the worst of the Oilers defence crew.  He managed to play better than the rest of them and was used often.  He really needs to find his groove in order to get the job done.  However, I do like Gilbert.  Well enough to sling a beer his way.  Cheers!

Honorable Mentions: Taylor Chorney (He didn't do any game breaking stuff, but played well.), Sam Gagner (He was great with Cogliano.  He played real well.  His passes were perfect.), Rob Schremp (He started off not so good but by the middle of the 2nd he was making plays on 5 on 5 and finished game more at the level Quinn wants.  Was this the last game for #88 as an Oiler?), Jordan Eberle (The young rookie battled hard and in return gains more of the coaches respect.), Robert Nilsson (Maybe just a little too late for him?  He was good tonight.)

-------------------------

JEERS

Lubomir Visnovsky - The worst of the worst.  He's slow and useless.  He's not making smart plays.  Maybe I was wrong when I said he was good a few games ago.  Maybe I forgot how good he really can be.  Common sense would say he's not in shape.  If he wants to start the year as the 5th or 6th guy, keep playing like that.  Booooooo!

Denis Grebeshkov - The second worst of the worst.  Pretty much the same as Visnovsky, but worse giveaways.  Grebs had some very sloppy play tonight.  Losing the puck at the worst time (not like there is a good time), getting caught up ice pinching and his overall defensive game was terrible.  I sure hope that someone other than Souray is going to step up and help this team win some games.  Get better Grebs...  in a hurry.  Booooooo!

Steve Staios - I just think he's past his prime and if there is anyway to make a trade for him I'd take it.  He was a big ball of stinky tonight.  He just plain sucked... that is all.  Boooooo!

Honorable Mentions: Ethan Moreau (Did he even play tonight?  How do you spell invisible?), Zack Stortini (Did nothing), Ryan Stone (He clearly won't make the team.  Not an NHLer.)

--------------------------

Who Should Be The Next To Be Sent Down?

Ryan Stone, Rob Schremp Marc Pouliot and Kip Brennan

---------------------------

THE GOAT WATCH™

Ethan Moreau - He stunk.  I think I picked the right guy.  Need I say more?

---------------------------

What an emotion filled game.  This team is like picking pedals off a flower.  We love them, we love them not.  Once again, we love them.  Until next time...

Beers and Jeers #56 (Apr 8/09 vs. Los Angeles Kings)

Well it's hard to want to sit down and talk about that game. I'm sad, frustrated, shocked and a little bit in denial. I can not believe it's all over.

Roli started what maybe his last game this year and possibly as an Oiler. Thanks Roli. We do like you here in Edmonton. But MacT, please let him play the last game of the year. Don't let it end like that for him and you.

-------------

1st Period

The 2nd line starts the game for the Oilers. The have a great 35 seconds as they are in the LA zone. But LA gets out and hems that line back in their own zone. Son of a... The Kings score a soft one on Roli at 0:55. Damn! 1-0 Kings. The crowd all at once let out a collective Awwww. A little while later Ethan Moreau drills a guy. Holy Crap! The Kings score again. 2-0 Kings. Once again it was the 2nd line that gets burned at 3:46. The crowd is stunned. I am stunned. After this this game is pretty boring. No real action, just safe hockey by both teams. At 8:51 the Oilers get their first PP. Not much really happens except for Hemsky whiffing on a pass. He looks at his stick blade like WTF? A few seconds later the camera shows him sitting on the bench pouting about it. At that moment both the wife and I said cya to Hemsky for the night. When he gets frustrated early, he disappears for the rest of the game. Probably he only real weak part of his game. Anyways, a fight breaks out. Peckham vs. Brian Boyle (6'7" 250lbs). Peckham kills him. He lands a few good left punches to the face/head. That was good. Crowd responds to it. MacT seems to have the blender on medium speed now. That means MacT is in panic mode. Not yet MacT. Jack Johnson nails Gagner from behind. Penner was right there when it happened and he took exception to it. Penner vs. Johnson. He handles Johnson ok and takes him down. Good on Penner. Will the emotion carry over to the 2nd? That was an intense last few minutes.

2nd Period

34 seconds into the 2nd, the Oilers go on their 2nd PP of the night. The PP still looks crappy. They don't score. Good first 5 minutes was all Oilers. 6 shots Oilers. Kings zero. Gagner the crazy fool skates out of his way to lay a body check on Brian Boyle. Brian Boyle! 6'7" 250lbs. Gags has a big set of nuts. How many Vets would have done that? That is why this kid is going to be a great all around player for the Oilers for years to come. A short while later, Brodziak grabs a flying puck and drops it in front of his stick. He has a wide open net and misses. Unbelievable! With 10 minutes played, the Oilers seem to be trying to get something done. Nothing is seeming to work though as it's still 2-0. Fight! Stortini vs. Ivanans. Good tilt. Storts even gets reversed jerseyed and still manages to get in some more shots to the head of Ivanans. After the fight Stortini's face looks like a half beaten bag of tomatoes. The 2nd line has been good this period. Good chances. Yeah! Oilers score. 2-1 Kings. (Pisani from Grebeshkov and Gilbert at 16:29.) Alright boys. Back in this one. Roli is taken down right in front of the ref and there is no call. The crowd is back in this game now too. Let's Go Oilers! Roli gets tripped up yet again and again, there is no call. Roli covers the puck and then freaks out. He throws the puck into the corner. Even when he's crappy, he still entertaining. Good period by the Oilers.

3rd Period

Good start by the Oilers. MacT is rolling all four lines. They are all playing good so why not? Nothing really news worthy in the first 10 minutes. Good flow but no excitement. With 9 minutes left, Gagner is nailed once again. And he just gets back up. Soon after Moreau has a great chance and almost scores. Nice passing on that play. Well there is 4:30 left and the Oilers are really turning up the heat now. The crowd is fired up and it seems to be helping the team. This game is Oilers vs. Quick. He is robbing the Oilers left and right. He's LA's Roli tonight. Oilers call a timeout at 18:21. Oilers can't mount much of an attack. With 32 seconds left, Grebeshkov has the puck taken from him as he is casually skating in front of Roli. He was lucky there as he stole it back. But the game ends. It's over. We lose.

BEERS

Sam Gagner - This kid wanted this win more than any other Oiler. Well it appeared that way to me. He was hitting guys twice his size, he was shooting. He had a couple of takeaways. He was trying to do what ever. In fact it makes me wonder if the Oilers should be like Chicago and bank their future on a young guy like Gagner by giving him the C? For a great game other than the 2 goals against, have a frosty beer. Cheers!

Theo Peckham - He has been impressing me quite a bit. He is tougher than I imagined. He plays pretty decent hockey. In fact, he keeps up the progress and he could easily replace Staios. His fight was good. He even manged a shot and a blocked shot. Solid game Theo. Have a cold one on me. Cheers!

Ethan Moreau - The Captain played pretty good. He did not do anything stupid. He played a sound game. He led the team with 4 hits and they were good ones to. He did his job and that deserves a beer. Cheers!

The Fans - There isn't enough beer in the world to numb the pain. But we shall try. Chug!

Honorable Mentions - Fernando Pisani (He scores the Oilers only goal. Played well.), Patrick O'Sullivan (The guy shoots from anywhere. 7 shots.)

JEERS

Ales Hemsky - WTF? Why is it that when you can't get anything going in the first 5 minutes you disappear for the rest of the game? You showed up a little near the end but it was too late. You let a lot of Oiler fans down playing like that in this game. We needed you. And you ignored us. Booooooo!

Shawn Horcoff - Ok. Your faceoffs were good. But when you are the #1 anything, you need to produce. Not just this game, but every game. You didn't and the season is over. Peoples brains are going to explode next year with that contract of yours. You think people are harsh now. lol. Wait. Boooooooooo!

89 12 19 37 77 35 - All six of these guys were on the ice for both LA goals. All six were guilty on the 2nd goal. Roli more so on the 1st goal. -2 for the 2nd line. You guys may have played well, but at those two moments you were pretty awful. Boooooooooo!

The Entire Team - Playoffs... Missed... 3 years in a row... WTF?!? BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
