Taylor Chorney Suspended

I forgot to post this earlier.

The following quote is from the AHL.

"AHL announces suspension
December 30, 2011

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League today announced that Oklahoma City Barons defenseman Taylor Chorney has been suspended for three (3) games as a consequence of an illegal check to the head of an opponent in a game vs. Rochester on Dec. 27.

Chorney will miss Oklahoma City’s games Saturday (Dec. 31) vs. San Antonio, Sunday (Jan. 1) at Houston and Wednesday (Jan. 4) at Lake Erie."

Taylor Chorney Has Been Claimed!

In what I'll call a stunning move, the St. Louis Blues have claimed Oilers defenceman Taylor Chorney off of waivers. Sounds like he's going to get a good shot with the Blues. Good for him, bad for the OKC Barons. They were expecting him to help the team out.

Good luck Taylor!

Players on the BUBBLE?

I have compiled a list of players within our system that we can consider PROSPECTS. Today I want to begin to cover some players I would say are..BUBBLE Players. A player who is sitting on that bubble and their future will very well be determined this 2011-2012 year in regards to the Edmonton Oilers organization. I don't claim to be a expert, only a fanatical fan who observes very closely the movement and development of players. Feel free to suggest other players you think may be on the BUBBLE this year. Disagree and state your arguments and opinions.........love to hear them.

So without further delay let's begin to look closer at Edmonton Oiler Prospects. Are they PROSPECTS? or are they SUSPECTS?

Alex Plante
6' 4"
230lbs
9 May 1989

SOME HISTORY: selected by the Edmonton Oilers 15th overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft and made his National Hockey League (NHL) debut in 2009–10. He is the son of former professional defenceman Cam Plante, while his brother, Tyler, is a goaltender in the Florida Panthers organization.

Plante played junior hockey for the Calgary Hitmen of the (WHL). They selected him with their second round pick, 21st overall, in the 2004 WHL Bantam Draft. He attracted greater attention from NHL scouts in the 2007 playoffs, scoring 11 points in 13 games. As a result, the Edmonton Oilers selected him 15th overall  in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, a higher position than he was initially expected to go. Several injuries limited Plante to 36 games in 2007–08 and he failed to report to Calgary's training camp prior to the 2008–09 WHL season, claiming that the team had treated him poorly the previous year. While he initially demanded a trade out of Calgary, Plante ultimately recanted and returned to the Hitmen early in the season. He rebounded from his "nightmare season" in 2007–08 to rank among the leaders of the Hitmen defence with 45 points in the regular season and another 15 in the playoffs before Calgary was upset in the league championship series by the Kelowna Rockets.

STATS for his 2 pro years in the Oilers farm system:
2009-2010  Springfield       GP 49 G 2 A 7   PTS 9
2010-2011 Oklahoma City GP 73 G 2 A 15 PTS 17

Article written by Ryan Dittrick at edmontonoilers.com:
In Plante’s two seasons as a professional, the bulk of his ice-time has been spent on the farm, keenly
developing his craft as an intimidating force on the blueline. His upward development curve has been
noticed in Edmonton, as the 6’4" 225 pound rearguard has earned two separate call-ups to make his mark with an early impression. "They want me to play simple," Plante explained. "When I was up there earlier in the year, I was probably trying to do a little bit too much. I wanted to be there, I wanted to show them I wanted to be there. I got away from my game and from the things that make me successful. That was another learning experience. It was only my second call-up, so I'm trying to learn from everything." "When I'm at my best, my game shouldn't change in the minors or whether I'm playing up top in the NHL.  I think at the end of the day, I was able to show them that I've been improving. I need to make sure that  continues. I’m hungry for that spot." Rounding out his game has been an ongoing process; a natural development curve that many up-and-coming prospects face early on. Edmonton’s philosophical change as an organization has meant that players with size and toughness will be highlighted. Securing a future spot in the Oilers lineup may come sooner, rather than later. That decision, naturally, is now on Plante’s shoulders.

revingevs TAKE:
Some people may very well question my belief that he is a BUBBLE player. In fact many may say he is a DEVELOPING player. I don't think the question is, "will he play in the NHL?" I think he will. Just not with the Edmonton Oilers. There has been a lot of new players coming in and challenging for his spot and Plante is not head and shoulders above them, in fact , those newer players are ranking above him in terms of call up. There is only so many spots available with the big club and unfortunately for Plante his time may be counting down.  He is the very kind of prospect who could end up being a part of a package moving out with a Current roster player in some transaction this year, or if not, for sure next.

Plante is close but still lacks the foot speed that it takes to compete at a higher level. the Oilers want big tough d-men, but they want them mobile. Alex does have a chance at the Oilers roster, but it's slim and there is,  tough competition! It's time for him to start dominating at the AHL level if he wants to break that BUBBLE!

Johan Motin
6' 2"
220lbs
10 Oct 1989

Talent Analysis pre-draft report by HF Boards:
Motin is a stay-at-home defenseman with very good size and strength. He has the potential to become a bruising defenseman if he develops his physical game. At this point, his is inconsistent when it comes to playing the body and should act with more resolution and confidence along the boards and in front of his goalie. Offensively, there is little to say about Motin. He does not have the fundamental skills to contribute in a big way in terms of points and hockey sense is limited to playing it safe in his own end. Motin’s puck skills are rather average and on the downside, mobility and speed could use some improvement.

As for his future? He should be considered a project and although playing against early against men, will likely need quite a few seasons of development before being possibly ready for the NHL.

History update:On June 21, 2008, Motin was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League (NHL),
selecting him in the fourth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, 103rd overall. On May 19, 2009, the Oilers announced that they had signed Motin to a three-year entry-level contract.  He was assigned to the Oilers' then-AHL affiliates, the Springfield Falcons, for the 2009-10 AHL season. Motin was called up to the Oilers senior roster on an emergency basis on March 3, 2010, and he played in
his first-ever NHL game. Motin was assigned to the Oilers' new AHL affiliate, the Oklahoma City Barons for their inaugural season.

Pro Stats: Springfield Falcons AHL       GP 55 G 1 A 5  PTS 6

revingevs TAKE:
Johan is a interesting character. His early rookie training camp looked pretty good to the eye. I personally was at that camp. His skating was smooth, he looked poised with the puck, patient and had some nice passes on the stick of his teammates. But something happened upon arriving in the AHL.

Not sure if it was the rough and rugged play, that can be tough in the AHL, but his development slowed and since, several other players have passed him on the depth charts. He is that BUBBLE player that could swing many directions. Possibly he becomes trade bait with a Oiler roster player, maybe he becomes a transitional player with our AHL club, maybe he just becomes a free agent and attempts to break through in another organization's club.

In order for Johan to make the Edmonton Oilers current roster now, it would take a Giant step forward in his development. Even then, that big development step may not get him on the Oilers roster, it could go a long way into getting noticed with another organization. Either way, this needs to be a step up year, or you very well could see him head back to Europe.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Taylor Chorney
6' 0"
193lbs
27 Apr 1987

HISTORY:
Drafted by the Edmonton Oilers with the 36th overall pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.  He previously played at the University of North Dakota.  Was on Team USA at the 2006 World
Junior Championships. Chorney represented the USA again in the 2007 World Juniors, where he was
team captain. He made his NHL debut on April 10, 2009 against the Calgary Flames. He recorded his
first NHL point in his first game of the 2009-10 season, by assisting one of Zack Stortini's two goals
on October 12, 2009 on the road against the Nashville Predators. Taylor Chorney scored his first
National Hockey League goal against the Dallas Stars on February 15th, 2011 at Rexall Place.

His father, Marc, played 210 games in the NHL for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Los Angeles Kings

PRO Stats:2008-09 Springfield Falcons AHL GP 68 G 5 A 16 PTS 21
2009-10 Springfield Falcons AHL GP 32 G 4 A 9  PTS 13
2010-11 OKC Barons            AHL GP 46 G 3 A 13 PTS 16
(needs to clear waivers)         NHL GP 56 G 1 A 6  PTS 7

Scott Reynolds over at The Copper and Blue wrote:Taylor Chorney is heading into his fourth professional season, which means he's entering that dangerous part of his career where he's no longer really considered a prospect. He'll need to clear waivers to make it to the AHL, but with six guys on one-way contracts plus Jeff Petry hanging around as the second-best right-handed defender on the team, the only way I see him making the Oilers out of camp is if the club decides to carry eight defenders.  Even if they do, he'll have a helluva time getting into the lineup unless he wants to play his off-side, which given his NHL results so far, could be absolutely disastrous. It seems more likely to me that (barring injury) Chorney gets sent to Oklahoma to start the year and  takes on the toughs at evens with a variety of partners. If he plays well, he might be able to earn a call-up for the fourth straight year, but again, he's getting older, so the Oilers might prefer to take a look at some of the younger prospects.

first NHL Goal:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myDAp9clpf0

revingevs TAKE:
As Scott Reynolds has said at Copper and Blue, Taylor really is not considered a prospect as he has to clear waivers to even be sent now to our AHL affiliate. However if your not on the Oilers current roster, your really a prospect, but not a developing one?

It's a interesting question. I have had the chance to see his development over the last couple years at Development Camps, rookie camps and Main training camps. Chorney is a interesting mix. For me he shows 'flashes' of what he can do and then disappears. Last year's Oilers skills competition he shocked many recording the fastest time on the current roster. I thought his development this past year went a long ways to him securing a spot on the big club. (Most likely why he got that contract he did).

With Petry right there beside him, he needs to really step it up, right out of training camp this year. His benefit? He will need to clear waivers in order to be sent down to OKC. Should he clear, he would be your first call-up in the case of a injury but in the mean-time  'would he clear waivers?'. I think there are teams out there willing to take a chance on him, so best bet is? The Oilers start the season with him in their line-up. He needs to come out the gate flying tho, cause he is a BUBBLE player right now who won't have much of a long lease should he falter early.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Toni Rajala
5' 10"
163lbs
29 Mar 1991

STATS:2009-10 Brandon Wheat Kings WHL Games 60 G 26 A 37 PTS 63
2010-11 Ilves Tampere SM-liiga  Games 44 G 9  A 13 PTS 22

History:Rajala began playing junior hockey with the Ilves Tampere system in 2005–06. By 2007–08, he had worked his way up to the Junior A level of the SM-Liiga, tallying 35 points in 33 games. Rajala turned pro with Ilves Tampere in 2008–09, tallying 5 points in 21 games during his professional rookie season in the SM-Liiga. On 16 July 2009 Rajala signed an two way contract NHL/AHL with Edmonton Oilers.

Rajala was selected in the first round of the 2009 CHL Import Draft (14th overall) by the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League (WHL). He joined the Wheat Kings for the 2009-10 WHL season.

Rajala debuted internationally for Finland at the 2008 IIHF World U18 Championships, recording
5 points in 6 games as Finland placed sixth. The next year, he was named to Finland's under-20
team for the 2009 World Junior Championships in Ottawa, Canada, and managed 3 points in 6 games;
Finland finished in seventh place. Later that year, in April 2009, Rajala competed for Finland at
the 2009 IIHF World U18 Championships in the United States. He led the tournament in scoring with 10 goals and 9 assists and broke the previous point record held by Alexander Ovechkin.

Rajala was selected as the best forward in the tournament, and was named to the tournament All-Star Team, helping Finland to a bronze medal.

HF Boards Talent Analysis:
Rajala has incredible offensive talent. His best asset might be his elusiveness.  He is however, very slight of build.  Rajala is a pure skill player who – mentally and physically – always seems to be a step ahead of the opposition. His size and strength are concerns – and the key issue will be whether he can compete on a nightly basis against some of the bigger and faster players in the NHL. He is almost unstoppable at the junior level – both in domestic play and in international competition – and has a strong inner drive to create offense. He is a marvel handling the puck, shoots accurately with a quick release, and is adept at passing and receiving the puck. Provides constant pressure on the power play due to his skill level, intensity and ability to recognize open teammates and scoring opportunities.

revingevs TAKE:
Surprised? I know, he is young, talented with lots of skill  and back in Europe serving his army time and still playing hockey. 'How could I have him as a BUBBLE player?' Well unfortunately for Tony he has a couple things going against him to make our current roster.

 1) He is a smaller sized talented player. We have been trying to move away from having so many of those type of players. which brings us to 2) We have some smaller talented players in our top 9.

Eberle and Omark and Gagner. (meaning under 6ft tall),  With all the talent stockpiling on the club Tony will have a hard time cracking this line-up and as far as I can gather, he will still not be with our AHL team this coming season. This means that he will need a season where he stands out as a elite talent in europe to even get noticed and not become another buried treasure.

Like I said in my opening article, 'the cupboards and fridge are quite stocked'. I think he could easily catch on somewhere else with the talent he has,  but at this point, he on the BUBBLE and this is his year to display what he can really do.

More BUBBLE players to be con't....

--------------------

THE MEAT AND POTATOES

Game Notes:

- The Oilers started the game on fire. Then by the halfway through the first it was all Kings. The Kings really applied the pressure on the Oilers. But, the 1st ended 1-0 for the Oilers despite being out-shot by the Kings.

- The 2nd period still wasn't good for the Oilers. The Kings again came out ready to beat the Oilers. Despite taking a ton of shots at Dubnyk, they couldn't score. The Oilers did however. It was 2-0 after the 2nd period was over.

- Even though the Oilers again scored early in the 3rd, the Kings were still taking it to them. Bam! Bam! It`s a 3-2 game. Bam! Now it's a 3-3 tie game. Holy crap! It was looking like the Oilers were going to implode once again, but the game went to overtime.

- Overtime settled nothing and the shootout was next. Potulny and Horcoff score to win it for the Oilers.

The Good:

- Devan Dubnyk was really good tonight. He faced 55 shots and had a shutout going into the 3rd period. I decided just for fun to see who people would choose. So I asked the people that were around for the TweetCast who they would keep if they had to pick, Dubnyk or Deslauriers. 10 people chose Dubnyk and 1 chose Deslauriers. I was one of the 10 that picked DD.

- Mike Comrie was the man tonight. Partly because Hillary Duff was at the game. He ALWAYS plays well when she is there. With 2 goals on 3 shots, I'd say Mike was on fire, or just a show off. I wonder if the Oilers are going to bring him back for another year? I don't think I'd be opposed to it. For a guy who I hated so much, I no longer have that hate for Mike.

- Tom Gilbert is easily the most improved player in the last half of the season. Ever since Ryan Whitney came into his life, he's be terrific. He scores a goal and has 2 assists tonight and led the team with 4 blocked shots. That's a great effort on his part.

- Ryan Whitney is slowing becoming one of my Jib cutters. He's a real key cog in helping Gilbert turn the page. He had 2 assists and was +2 tonight.

- Marc Pouliot was the best at faceoffs tonight at 50%. Other than that, he did squat.

- The "New Bash Brothers" Arsene and Johnson were pretty dominant in the hitting department. Johnson had 5 hits and Arsene had 4 hits.

The Not So Good:

- The Oilers were out-shot 55-16. I can not believe they won a game while getting destroyed in shots.

- The Chorney/Strudwick train wreck was in full force tonight. Chorney made a weak pass on his first shift and never looked back. Both guys ended up -2 each. I don't want either one of these guys back.

- The play that caused the penalty shot that Whitney took was bad. He gave the puck away at the Kings bklueline and then rushed back and grabbed Modin and hauled him down in front of DD. Good thing Dubnyk saved that penalty shot.

The Side Dish:

- The Edmonton Oilers website has a draft simulator. Try it here. It's kind of fun.

- The Springfield Falcons lost in a 7-5 game to the Wolf Pack. Click here for the recap.

THE MEAT AND POTATOES

The Good:

- Linus Omark was signed to a two year, two way deal with the Oilers today. He is just another smurf so I'm curious on how his training camp is going to be. The jury is still out on whether this is good or bad news.

- Moreau scores a shorthanded goal to make it 2-0. But wait, hold the phone. Moreau scores again. His first 2 goal game this year. Wow! By the last few frames of the game, Moreau has had a few good chances as everyone is feeding him for the hat trick. It's more than evident by his 7 shots on goal. Finally the captain shows the team how to lead.

- Devan Dubnyk played a heck of a game and gets to the number 3 in the win column. It wasn't show stopping, but he got the job done. It's been a fun year (hypothetically speaking) to watch him grow and get better.

- Wow! Dean Arsene sure can hit a guy. Boom! But... he can't fight worth a crap. If he could learn to fight better, I'd really push for him to be on the team next season.

- Dustin Penner was good again tonight. (maybe Quinn should scratch out O'Sullivan's eye?) He scores his 30th goal (and 31st) of the season. He's the first since Ryan Smyth did it. *runs and cries because I still miss Smitty*

- Shawn Horcoff had a good game. He picked up two assists and was pretty good at both ends of the ice.

- The Whitney/Gilbert machine was working well tonight. Gilbert even picked up a few more assists for his season points total.

- Taylor Chorney played really good. The rookie did well. He picked up an assist and he was +2. Maybe one of his best games as an Oiler.

- Ryan Potulny was back in tonight and he played a very solid game. He was 80% on faceoffs, he had 2 assists, and in my opinion, one of the best Oiler players tonight. Potsy is a keeper.

- Andrew Cogliano has really changed these last few games. I think it's the fact that he now gets to be a go to guy. With all the injuries to the team, he's getting his chance to shine. He was +1 tonight.

- Fernando Pisani led the team with 4 hits. I'm going to miss him next year.

The Not So Good:

- The team was good. No need to bitch.

SHOOTOUT DETAILS

------------------

BAD TIMING PENALTY

Theo Peckham - Right after the Habs score their 3rd goal to make it 3-2, Peckham takes a very silly holding penalty and gave the Habs even more momentum than they already had from the go ahead goal. And besides that, he was just in the box a few minutes before that which caused the Habs momentum swing in the first place. Bad game for Peckham.
------------------

BEERS

Penner/Cogliano/Brule - Cogliano gets the fortune of acquiring a dynamic duo in Penner and Brule to play on his wings for this game. Penner and Brule have an uncanny chemistry and adding Cogliano's speed and aggressive puck play just made that line fantastic. Split a mini keg boys. Cheers!

Tom Gilbert - He finished the game a +1 and he had two assists and he blocked 4 shots. Not bad for a 5-4 hockey game.  He's done nothing but impress me since his new top pairing role has started. I can see why he wears the "A" once in a while now. He's one of the leaders for this Oilers team now and down the road. He played 27:49 and was good right down to the wire. One frosty cold one, coming up. Cheers!

Chris Minard - The $275,000 AHL hotshot finally makes his Oilers debut. At the start of the game, I had doubts. But within the first three minutes of the game he has a nice give and go with Gagner and he picks up an assist on the goal. He seemed to play well with Gagner and Pouliot. He sure didn't look out of place. He played 10:54. Have a cold frosty mug of Oilers Jambalaya Budweiser. Cheers!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Aaron Johnson (He played 26:31. Holy crap. He must be dead after a game like that. And he played really good. He ended the night +1.), Shawn Horcoff (He played well with Comrie. Horcoff even scored tonight. Really, he did.), Robert Nilsson (3 shots and a goal for Bobby. I know, it's strange. He was good.), Devan Dubnyk (He played OK. He let in some weak goals and he wasn't spectacular. But that's OK, he made it to the shootout and even did pretty good in that. He still hasn't won his first NHL game yet.)

------------------

JEERS

Taylor Chorney - I didn't like his game tonight and ending up -3 sucks. Sloppy plays and bad passes makes me want to boo him. So I'm going to. BOOOOOOO!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Jason Strudwick (He was looking like he was drowning out there. I'd say I hope he gets better, but who am I kidding.)

-------------------

OUR GAME SUMMARIES

Smokin' Ray - The first period was very exciting. Very. Four goals in the first ten minutes was an intense way to start a game. The whole game was good, but that start was great. I knew it was a good game when my pregnant and due wife was even enjoying the game. Not much impresses her lately. lol. So if you missed the game, oh well, you missed the game. That's why we have a recap. ; )

Oh yeah... Ryan Whitney suffered and injury and did not play in the 3rd. The injury bug strikes again.

GOAT WATCH

(Smokin' Ray) Ethan Moreau - He sucks.  He tries hard, but does nothing.  (NNC)

(Paq Twinn) Robert Nilsson - He did ok.  Better than Moreau.  He didn't have any giveways (amazing).  He played somewhat good but still sucked.  Once again... better than Moreau.

------------------

BEERS

Nikolai Khabibulin - I love this guy.  What more do I have to say?  He was rock solid and played the hell out of Louongo.  He's looking great but I'm wondering when we will see the shutout?  I gues really soon.  Solid effort once again Khabi.  Frosty beer time!  Cheers!

Ladislav Smid - He's part defence, he's part scrapper and apparantly, he's part goalie.  He made a beauty of a save with Bulin out of position and saved the game.  That and he played a heck of a game without making saves.  I am so glad that he is still an Oiler.  He's playing better than most of our higher paid defencemen.  He once again was a +1 this game. He can do no wrong.  Plus add 3 blocked shots. All hail lord Smid.  Beer sir? Cheers!

Sam Gagner - Lil Sam was stellar tonight.  Word had it, his old man was here because he works for the Canucks now.  Sam always finds his A game when he's watching.  He scores the winning goal and played a heck of a game.  He went 8W & 6L for 57% on the faceoffs.  For Sam that's a good game.  He also had 4 shots and was a +2.  Dude!  Score me a high five. *slap* It's Miller time.  Cheers!

Taylor Chorney - Since being called up he's been great.  I can't say enough about Chorney.  He doesn't make huge mistakes and he seems comfortable playing in the NHL.  I'm sure glad we have a little bit of skill in the minors.  With Chorney and Peckham, we look good for the future.  Would you like a beer young man?  Cheers!

Patrick O'Sullivan - He seems like he likes it here now.  He's one awesome player.  He hits, shoots and plays like his bigger than he is.  He scores the 1st Oiler goal and assists on Gagners game winner.  When he isn't shooting the puck, he was also blocking shots and using his smarts on the PK. Sully seems to be a pretty complete player.  Good trade for Tambo.  Enjoy the fans love my friend.  It may not be forever.  Great game.  Frosty beer?  Cheers!

Dustin Penner - This guy is for real.  Team Canada take note.  Dustin Penner is a changed man.  He's playing that power forward bit to a "T" now.  Real Cam Neely like.  Instead of just saying that we can't believe it, we should believe it.  I like this guy, and you should too.  It's beer chuggin' time.  Cheers!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Ales Hemsky (Maybe he has something to prove now?  He showed a lot of drive and will tonight.  And he fired a ton of shots.  A new Hemsky or just a rested one?)  DUE TO PEOPLE SAYING I'M WRONG, I'LL STRIKE IT OUT. BUT I STAND BY MY THOUGHTS.

------------------

JEERS

Shawn Horcoff - When you have Sam Gagner at 57%, what is your excuse for being 7W 17L for 29%?  You probably don't have one.  Key situations arise in the game and Quinn picks... Gagner.  You know Shawn, if you can't do the little things right like all the people in the world give you credit for (except me), then you wouldn't be so bad in a game when we really needed some leadership.  Instead the old guy goalie and the punk kids, Gagner and O'Sullivan show you up.  Pretty sad.  Booooooooo!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Robert Nilsson (At times he looked good.  But most of the time he was all over the place.  I really don't see him staying with this club by the end of the year.  Somethings got to give.), Tom Gilbert (4 giveaways?  WTF man?  Gilbert isn't playing his best right now.  He needs to be better.)

OUR GAME SUMMARIES

Smokin' Ray - I thought that for the most part it was a dry game.  I always expect a good show between these two teams.  But tonight was different.  It seemed tame.  The Oilers didn't really do well in the 1st period but got better as the game went on. Stortini's fight was a good one, but he lost.  Both goalies were really good (which I called a 5-3 Oilers win) and that made it a real low scoring affair. I was super pumped when gagner scored the winning goal and was freaking out when the Canucks almost scored in the last second. I'm getting tired of that.  But, the Oilers win and all is good in the Nation once again.

Paq Twinn - This was a back and forth game that looked like every other game between these two teams for the last couple years. The difference, the Oilers played better then the Canucks. Penner, Gags, Chorney, Patty-O, and Khabi stood out for me, they were the best Oilers tonight. Comrie, Nilsson, and Hemsky stood out for all the wrong reasons, they were simply awful tonight. The Oilers need to do something about face-offs, I hear Horton from Florida may be available. But at least the shot difference was better this game, even if they still let 35+ against, the Oilers did shoot a lot more tonight. I'll give the Oilers a B- for the game.

Graham Martin - John Garrett, if i ever see you in the streets I am gonna punch right in your stupid f*cking moustache and let you know that you are the worst color commentary guy ever! On the plus, D Penner and L Smid were fantastic tonight. and honorable mention to Gags, Sullivan and Chorney!

Beers and Jeers #57 (Apr 10/09 vs. Calgary Flames)

I am going to skip most parts of the Beers and Jeers. Mainly because no one cares anymore. (well, I do.) The Oilers played well last night despite the fLames only dressing 15 players. The game had no life and it was strange to watch. The crowd was given a good show though.

BEERS

Steve MacIntyre - He was great. He scores the GWG and does it in fashion by crashing the net to score. He had a hit and played what seemed like a lot to me. (11:04 of ice time) He even had some PP time. And the funny part is he really didn't look out of place 5 on 5. Will he be back next year? For playing a hell of a game, have a cold frosty with me. Cheers!

Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers - He was solid. I am not sure why he hasn't played more? I look forward to the future of the Oilers. JDD will be one of our leaders in years to come. Great game JDD. Care for a mug o' beer? Cheers!

Theo Peckham - I like this guy. He seems to be coming along quite nicely. He seems to have a good hockey sense and that will only get better. He helped to carry Chorney for most of the game and only had a few mistakes. But who cares? He did well (4 blocked shots). How about a cold can of Molson? Cheers!

Patrick O'Sullivan - I thought that Sully played a great game. He had a ton of shots and finally scored his 2nd goal with the Oilers. 8 shots. Wow! Great game Sully, I look forward to next year. Have a cold one. Cheers!

Sheldon Souray - Souray also had a great game. He didn't have to play with that edge that he has and his game still worked well. His goal was a bomb and it was nice to see one last one before the season is over. Good game Souray. Beer? Cheers!

Honorable Mentions: Shawn Horcoff (Played well. Three point night and played a good all around game.), Ales Kotalik (scored a nice one timer. The better Ales tonight), Taylor Chorney (Although not an outstanding game, he will be good for the Oil someday soon. Good 1st game ever.)
