Summer Winds Down

As summer winds down, it signifies many things, the most important being, the new hockey season. For the Oilers it has not been the whirl-wind offseason like it was last year with a certain selfish sniper named Dany Heatley. But, that is long forgotten (somewhat), and as we Oilers fans begin to speculate who has it to make the NHL squad, let's take a look back at what transactions took place in this rather satisfying offseason for the Edmonton Oilers after their historic draft:

June 29 - Oilers waive Captain Ethan Moreau, who is picked up by the Columbus Blue Jackets on June 30th
June 30 - Oilers trade Patrick O'Sullivan for more than he's worth (a bag of pucks in my opinion), and received Jim Vandermeer from the Phoenix Coyotes (O'Sullivan's contract is bought out by the Coyotes hours after the trade)
June 30 - Oilers buy out the remainder of Robert Nilsson's contract, he signs with KHL's Salavat Yulaev on July 23rd
July 1 - Oilers sign big D-man Kurtis Foster, who has a had a very tough career but is a very solid player.
July 1 - Oilers UFA Charles Linglet signs with KHL's Nijni Novgorod
July 2 - Oilers UFA Chris Minard signs with the Detroit Red Wings
July 2 - Oilers sign UFA Richard Petiot to a 1-year contract
July 2 - Oilers re-sign UFA Jason Strudwick to a 1-year contract
July 2 - Oilers bring back UFA tough guy Steve MacIntyre on a 1-year contract
July 3 - Oilers sign former AHL MVP UFA Alexandre Giroux to a 1-year contract
July 5 - Oilers sign Number 1 Pick Taylor Hall to a 3-year Entry Level Contract
July 7 - Oilers UFA Ryan Stone signs with the Calgary Flames
July 7 - Oilers sign UFA Brad Moran to a 1-year contract
July 9 - Oilers sign UFA Ben Ondrus to a 1-year contract
July 9 - Oilers UFA Colin McDonald signs an AHL contract with the Oklahoma City Barons
July 13 - Oilers re-sign RFA Devan Dubnyk to a 2-year contract
July 13 - Oilers sign UFA Shawn Belle to a 1-year contract
July 14 - Oilers re-sign RFA J.-F. Jacques to a 1-year contract
July 15 - Oilers re-sign RFA Theo Peckham to a 1-year contract
July 16 - Oilers UFA Slava Trukhno signs with KHL's Novosibirsk
July 16 - Oilers sign UFA Gregory Stewart to a 1-year contract
July 16 - Oilers re-sign RFA Ryan O'Marra to a 1-year contract
July 23 - Oilers UFA Marc-Antoine Pouliot signs with the Tampa Bay Lightning
July 27 - Oilers re-sign RFA Gilbert Brule to a 2-year contract
July 31 - Oilers re-sign RFA Jeff Deslauriers to a 1-year contract
August 6 - Oilers sign UFA Martin Gerber to a 1-year contract
August 9 - Oilers re-sign RFA Liam Reddox to a 1-year contract
August 11 - Oilers UFA Dean Arsene signs with the St. Louis Blues
August 18 - Oilers UFA Fernando Pisani signs with the Chicago Blackhawks

Oilers UFA's unsigned: 6 (Mike Comrie, Josef Hrabal, Aaron Johnson, Matt Nickerson, Geoff Paukovich, Ryan Potulny)
Oilers RFA's unsigned: 2 (Andrew Cogliano, Sam Gagner)

If you look at last years roster, and then this years roster, you will notice that there are huge changes. It's a new era in Oil Country folks. We've finally gotten ridden of the small, inconsistent players that we've had for the better part of four seasons. Here are my projected lines for this year:

Forwards

Penner - Gagner - Hemsky
Hall - Eberle - Brule
Paajarvi - Horcoff - Cogliano
Jones - Fraser - Stortini/Jacques/MacIntyre
Scratches: the two tough guys that aren't in the lineup

Defensemen

Whitney - Gilbert
Smid (Souray*) - Foster
Vandermeer - Strudwick
Scratches: Chorney
Note: Souray will have to accept the fact that no one wants his contract, and will play in Smid's spot if so, leaving Strudwick the odd man out.

I will hold off on fully evaluating the roster until the final roster is announced after pre-season, but I can promise this, there's something special going on here in Edmonton.

Moreau, O'Sullivan and Nilsson Have Been Put On Waivers

Moreau, O'Sullivan and Nilsson have been put on waivers for the purpose of a buyout. I have been saying it for weeks and the day is finally here.

*sigh of refief*

After they clear tomorrow at noon (?), then the Oilers will proceed with a buyout for those three. I personally thought that maybe the Oilers would retain Nilsson and they would keep him in OKC for the next season. That could still happen, but it's looking like buyouts is the only decision.

--------------------

THE MEAT AND POTATOES

The Good:

- Linus Omark was signed to a two year, two way deal with the Oilers today. He is just another smurf so I'm curious on how his training camp is going to be. The jury is still out on whether this is good or bad news.

- Moreau scores a shorthanded goal to make it 2-0. But wait, hold the phone. Moreau scores again. His first 2 goal game this year. Wow! By the last few frames of the game, Moreau has had a few good chances as everyone is feeding him for the hat trick. It's more than evident by his 7 shots on goal. Finally the captain shows the team how to lead.

- Devan Dubnyk played a heck of a game and gets to the number 3 in the win column. It wasn't show stopping, but he got the job done. It's been a fun year (hypothetically speaking) to watch him grow and get better.

- Wow! Dean Arsene sure can hit a guy. Boom! But... he can't fight worth a crap. If he could learn to fight better, I'd really push for him to be on the team next season.

- Dustin Penner was good again tonight. (maybe Quinn should scratch out O'Sullivan's eye?) He scores his 30th goal (and 31st) of the season. He's the first since Ryan Smyth did it. *runs and cries because I still miss Smitty*

- Shawn Horcoff had a good game. He picked up two assists and was pretty good at both ends of the ice.

- The Whitney/Gilbert machine was working well tonight. Gilbert even picked up a few more assists for his season points total.

- Taylor Chorney played really good. The rookie did well. He picked up an assist and he was +2. Maybe one of his best games as an Oiler.

- Ryan Potulny was back in tonight and he played a very solid game. He was 80% on faceoffs, he had 2 assists, and in my opinion, one of the best Oiler players tonight. Potsy is a keeper.

- Andrew Cogliano has really changed these last few games. I think it's the fact that he now gets to be a go to guy. With all the injuries to the team, he's getting his chance to shine. He was +1 tonight.

- Fernando Pisani led the team with 4 hits. I'm going to miss him next year.

The Not So Good:

- The team was good. No need to bitch.

Game Recap: Ryan Whitney Takes It To The Ducks In An Oiler Loss

VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS

--------------------

THE MEAT AND POTATOES

The Good:

- Jeff Deslauriers was good. He made some big saves (37 in total) and gave the Oilers hope when the game was looking bleak. He played hard and the team didn't give him much help once the Ducks got going in the 3rd.

- Gilbert Brule played himself a good game. He was everywhere and tried to make an impact on every shift he was out. He had 5 shots on goal and scored with one of them. He's definitely a bright spot on next years team.

- Ryan Whitney was hungry to show the Ducks what they gave up on. I think with his 2 assists and 27:08 in ice time, he did just that. He even got into it with Troy Bodie (a former Oiler prospect) and showed a lot of piss and vinegar. I am really liking the cut of his jib.

- Instead of hating him, I liked Marc Pouliot tonight.

- I liked the passion from Dean Arsene. His rough treatment on Bobby Ryan and then the mercy fight with Mike Brown (he was killed in that fight), was good to see from an Oiler defenceman.

- I thought Mike Comrie had a good game. He didn't score, but he made some great plays and had 4 shots.

- Tom Gilbert never ceases to amaze me lately. He played 25:17 and didn't make a lot of mistakes. He also picked up an assist.

- Patrick O'Sullivan was back in the lineup. He was pretty solid and it looked like his finger didn't hurt him that much.

The Not So Good:

- I miss Visnovsky.

- I don't know how many times Kevin Quinn said "601" in reference to Teemu Selanne being at 600 goals, but it got old real quick.

- Once again the 2009/10 Edmonton Oilers team blows a game in the 3rd period. Even with endless Power Plays, they were out-skilled and outplayed by the Ducks. The 3rd period started as a 1-1 tie game and it got going at the 10 minute mark, for the Ducks. Then with two minutes left they turn it on and get some real good chances or a goal like tonight. It's this aspect of the Oilers game that I really hope they change for next season. I really do not like it.

- And to top it off, the game was boring for the first 50 minutes.

- TheCaptainEthanMoreau had 3 giveaways and had enough ice time that he should have accomplished more than he did. How is this guy NOT in Springfield with the Falcons? Seriously.

The Side Dish:

- The Springfield Falcons lost to the Lowell Devils 4-3 in the shootout. Jordan Eberle picked up an assist and scored a goal in the shootout during the loss. Eberle has at least one point in every game he's played with the Falcons so far this year.

- The Stockton Thunder also played tonight. Recap soon.

Devan Dubnyk Wins His First NHL Game / Oilers vs Red Wings Game Recap (3/19/10)

VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS

THE SHOOTOUT VIDEO

--------------------

THE MEAT AND POTATOES

The Good:

- Devan Dubnyk almost lost his first win with .03 seconds left in the 3rd period. But he didn't. Lucky for him he continued his good play for a full 65 minutes plus the shootout. Devan Dubnyk has a legitimate NHL win under his belt. I couldn't be happier for him. Great job Devan.

- Ryan Whitney scored his first goal as an Oiler tonight. He's been pretty good since we acquired him. I'm still finding him to be a decent pick up in a trade. Especially for a guy like Lubomir Visnovsky. Whitney had 5 shots and 3 blocked shots to go with his goal. I'd say a decent night.

- Andrew Cogliano is a whole different guy right now. You put him on the top line and he performs. He scores a goal and gets an assist on the Whitney goal. This was one of his best games in a long time. He was solid at both ends of the ice. But can he do it again?

- Gilbert Brule has been quietly one of the Oilers most consistent guys all season long. He did it again tonight as he keeps showing that chemistry with Penner and Cogliano. Brule assisted on both Oiler goals and played a good physical game all game. He's, in my opinion, a keeper for next season. You can just tell he wants to be good.

The Not So Good:

- Ethan Moreau is just plain bad. it's like he has no clue on how to play the game anymore. If Comrie was a healthy scratch, I'm going to be very ticked off.

- Theo Peckham is going to take a lot of the blame for the tying goal by not playing the puck properly, but where was the defender watching the back door guy (Rafalski)? Where was Johnson? Horcoff?

- Speaking of Peckham, his partnership with Johnson wasn't so shit hot tonight. Both of them finished a -2 and while they did look good for long periods of time, they had those rookie mistakes that can cause a game to be lost. They have been a good duo and I'd expect them to be a little better next game.

- I really do not like the Minard/Gagner/Stortini line. Either Quinn figures that Gagner is so damn good that he makes others around good or he's really ticked at him? I honestly do not know the answer so I can't tell you either way. I would hope it's because he thinks he's the cats ass.

The Side Dish:

- If you missed it, Jordan Eberle scored a goal in the first minute of his first game with the Springfield Falcons this year. CLICK HERE for the game recap.

- Also tonight the Stockton Thunder had a game to play. They lost to the Utah Grizzles in a very one-sided game by the score of 6-2. The recap will be posted soon on Oilers Jambalaya.

- The Canadian Sledge Hockey team also lost their game tonight. They were playing against Norway for the bronze medal and Norway scored with 3 seconds left. It's a shame because Canada wanted this so bad after being shocked by Japan yesterday. Good try and we still love you guys. GOCANADAGO!

--------------------

DID YOU KNOW? (Facts About The Edmonton Oilers)

Did you know... at this point of the Oilers season, the majority of fans wanted an Detroit win tonight (to be ahead of Calgary in the standings) over Devan Dubnyk to get his first win tonight and not achieve the record for longest in NHL without first win.

Did you know... Gilbert Brule is 3rd on the team in points with 34 points?

Did you know... Devan Dubnyk started in goal 11 times this season, including tonight? That's a lot of games with no win.

Welcome to Oilers Jambalaya - An Edmonton Oilers Hockey Blog. Beers & Jeers is a dual collaboration between Smokin' Ray and Paq Twinn. We hope you enjoy our Edmonton Oilers full game recap.

------------------

- Who's Out? Who's in? OK. It came down to the Oilers skating on the ice for Quinn to decide. Stortini sits out and Gagner has flown home to have his knee checked out. So means that Nilsson and Brule are back in the lineup after sitting for a few games. Staios and Smid are back in and Chorney and Plante have been sent back down to Springfield.

- If I'm not mistaken, the Oilers are going to announce that the Oilers new farm team will be in Oklahoma City next season. Thanks Springfield Falcons, it's been a slice.

BAD TIMING PENALTY

None - It was a blowout. A bad penalty wasn't going to change anything.

------------------

BEERS

None - They were that bad.

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Gilbert Brule (I liked his hustle and drive tonight. He tried to prove Quinn wrong.), Dustin Penner (He was the only Oiler at +1. He also scored the only Oiler goal.), Ryan Potulny (He also played with some jam. He had 5 shots and was 58% on faceoffs.), Ladislav Smid (He played a pretty decent game. He had 2 shots and 2 blocked shots.), Robert Nilsson (He was not very flashy, but he had 6 shots on net. He also picked up the assist on the Penner goal.), Tom Gilbert (I have liked Gibby's game for a while now. He's been the most consistent Oiler on the back end lately.)

------------------

JEERS

Shawn Horcoff - Man was he terrible. Error after error. It was just embarrassing to watch these 3rd line guys. When you talk about an epic fail, talk Shawn Horcoff. Booooo!

Ethan Moreau - Tied with Staios for a team worst -4. ~Sweet!~ Boooooo!

Steve Staios - He was cause for a few of the Coyotes goals tonight. He was just plain bad. Not a great first game back. He was tied for a team worst with -4 and he had no hits and only one blocked shot. Boooooo!

Jeff Deslauriers - Wow did he suck. Soft goals looked even softer against him tonight. Games like these don't help the GAA. Jeff looked bad and probably would be the first to admit it. Good try, but Booooo!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Fernando Pisani (He was lumped on a bad line with two bad hockey players. It seems to be soaking into Pisani. He wasn't very good tonight either.), Jason Strudwick (While I don't put a lot of blame on him - he has very little skill - he was brutal tonight. He did drop the gloves though, but was beat),

-------------------

OUR GAME SUMMARIES

Smokin' Ray - Wow that was painful to watch. Even more than the other bad losses lately. The Twitterland was full of pissed off people. (check the TweetCast recap box above) It gets harder to be positive for these guys. It gets harder to believe that Pat Quinn is the right guy for this job. It gets harder to just simply turn on the TV. But I do it. I love this team - well, not the current one - and I'm here for everything, good or bad. I'm here for that blue and orange logo. I'm here for the oil drop. But most of all... I'm here for the hardcore and best hockey fans ever. The Edmonton Oiler fans kick ass and we deserve better. You deserve better. Patience I guess.

Could Moreau Be A Leaf?

Darren Dreger from TSN is reporting that The Leafs might be willing to take the Edmonton Oilers Ethan Moreau. The Leafs are reported to be looking for some kind of compensation from the Oilers for taking Moreau's contract as he has one more year on his current deal and it's a $2 million cap hit..

What kind of compensation? The Leafs most likely want a draft pick from the Oilers.  Would they take a prospect instead of a pick? I don't know.

It's also been reported that Exelby or Stempniak are the Leafs mentioned in this deal. One of them will be the "prize".

Let's not get our hopes up. Tambo might still be assessing.

------------------

BAD TIMING PENALTY

Ethan Moreau - Of course it's the Captain. I mean really... who else right?  At 14:59 of the 3rd period, Moreau takes the Oilers only penalty of the game and does it in style with another hooking call. The Predators score on that PP and I'm sure somewhere, Moreau is blaming the PK unit for allowing that goal and crushing the teams momentum that it was building for a comeback.  Trade this guy ASAP.

------------------

GAME STAT SHEET

------------------

BEERS

Dustin Penner - He was a workhorse (22:55 of ice time) and played a heck of a game. His low point was his -2 rating.  However the -2 wasn't really pinned on him. He was playing with everyone and was trying to do everything.  He scored a goal and had 6 shots. All in all, he was trying his butt off and he was good.  Frosty Bud? Cheers!

Ryan Potulny - He had a goal and an assist and played a pretty good game.  Once again he surprises me.  He did the little things right and impressed me with his play.  It`s Miller Time for Potsy. Cheers!

Visnovsky/Smid - The bad news first: Visnovsky had 5 giveaways. Ouch!  The good news: This was a good tandem.  They were great and both ended up +1.  Visnovsky managed an assist on the last PP goal and even blocked a couple of shots.  Smid on the other hand played a smart game.  I liked these two tonight.  Cold beeeerrrr heeeeerrree. Cheers!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Devan Dubnyk (He came in in relief and played well. After a few more games, I bet he`s more comfortable out there.), Robert Nilsson (At times he was reckless, but for the most part he was good.), Sam Gagner (The little dude was buzzing out there.  He made some nice plays.) Patrick O`Sullivan (Hard to believe I cursed at him a lot a month ago.  He was pretty decent in this game.)

------------------

JEERS

Ethan Moreau - TRADE HIM NOW!!! He blew the teams momentum again this game.  He sucks and needs to go. Booooooo!!!

Souray/Gilbert - Wow! Souray was the worst tonight. He was standing there like a deer in headlights all night.  Gilbert sucked too, but not near as bad as Souray.  -4 for Souray and -3 for Gilbert.  Not a good night for these two. Booooooo!

Jeff Deslauriers - He was burned on some tough goals and some weak ones that should be stopped.  He even flubbed up a pass to Gilbert which resulted in a goal for Nashville.  Ugh! What a bad game for JDD. Boooooo!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): None

-------------------

OUR GAME SUMMARIES

Smokin' Ray - That sucked bad.  My goat, Ethan Moreau, blew the momentum with a Bad Timing Penalty and that was the game. Sure the Oilers might not have made the comeback, but how are we going to find out?  As of right now, the Oilers only have one win in the last 13 games. Yay team!

Paq Twinn - I was stuck between wanting to laugh and cry for most of this game. It was amazing how little of an effect the two day mini-camp seemed to have had. Despite Quinn and companies best efforts, the Oilers looked pretty much exactly the same. The Oilers did out shoot the Preds but were unable to Pekka Rinne until 7:22 of the 3rd. However, after that goal the Oilers played much better. They started to skate just a little bit harder, and as a result, started to control the play more then they did in the first 47 mins. Had they started to play this way earlier, like say in the 1st or even the2nd, they might have won this game. Pens had a pretty good game and was double shifted most of the night. He scored a PP goal late in the 3rd. JFJ played well, Cogs continued to play with an edge, and Doobie played very well in relief of JDD. Game Grade: D+

Oilers Stiff Calgary Restaurant With Bill?

Wow. In a shocking revelation by Calgary's CTV News, the Edmonton Oilers hockey players and their wives/girlfriends were dining at Osteria De Medici, a pretty nice joint in the Kensington area of Calgary after the new years game against the Flames.  It appears that the Oilers upon receiving their bill, looked at it, and declined to pay it.  The Captain Ethan Moreau was one of the players that refused that bill.

Apparently, it was close to an $18,000 bill and the Oilers figured it was too much.  The restaurant reportedly charged them by the shot and the Oilers wanted it by the bottle.  If you have ever been to a bar, you know that the shots add up quickly.  This liquor bill was around $8,000.  But nonetheless, the Oilers should have shut up and paid it.  No questions asked.

It's reported that the restaurant was going to call the police and the players ended up paying $12,000 and figured it out to be square.  Maurizio Terrigno, the owner of the restaurant begs to differ, he still wanted the close to $18,000 bill paid.  He also said that someone from the Edmonton Oilers organization contacted the restaurant this afternoon and worked out a deal for the rest of the tab.  He says that he is going to donate the money to charity.

What the hell are these guys thinking?  Your in Calgary, your the Edmonton Oilers, and you know, the most hated team in Calgary, and you don't want to pay a bill when you make millions of dollars?  Is this really the smartest/best idea?  In other words, take your lumps and call it a lesson learned.

So we, the fans, can't even start off the new year without an Oiler embarrassment? (True or false, right or wrong, it's just more negative news the Oilers don't need.) Thanks guys. *face in palm* Happy New Years to you too.  2010 starts off great.

EDIT (7:00pm):  Here is Dan Tencer's Take on this story:

The owner of a Calgary restaurant is trying to use the Edmonton Oilers as a publicity tool.

After last night's game in Calgary, the entire Oilers team went out for a pre-planned meal with their wives and girlfriends at the upscale, downtown eatery Osteria De Medici.

At the end of the night the players were presented with a bill for close to $19,000, a figure that struck them as being grossly inflated for what they consumed over their roughly 90 minute stay. The players, while still waiting at the restaurant, asked for the bill to be re-calculated at which point they were presented with a revised cheque for $12,381. The team paid for the bill with a credit card, and left.

The owner of the restaurant called Calgary media this morning, claiming that the players refused to pay the bill until they were threatened with a phone call to the police. Oilers officials call the story "ridiculous".(dt/tc)

EDIT (8:30pm):  Here is the TSN version of the story.

EDIT (9:00pm): Here is the Calgary Herald Version.

EDIT (5:30pm 1/3/10): Now that the storm has blown over it appears that everything has been worked out for both parties.  The Oilers say no harm was done and the restaurant owner says it's OK.  It's over.  Osteria de Medici owner Maurizio Terrigno said Saturday, "I’m happy to report the situation’s been resolved"

So did I jump the gun and spit out an opinion a little too quick?  Perhaps.  But then again, I shoot from the hip and I always have something to say.  So like many suggested, this is over and should fade away now.

BAD TIMING PENALTY

Ethan Moreau - The awesome Captain took a stupid penalty in the 2nd (which was later followed by a Potulny delay of game, but was an accident).  He interfered with Luongo and had to go sit for two.  Yes folks... another offensive zone penalty.  The Canucks scored on the 5 on 3 and then again on the 5 on 4.  Thanks Captain. Great Leading.

------------------

BEERS

None - None deserving of a beer.

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Jeff Deslauriers (He had a good game other than the PP goals scored on him. The team could have scored to help him out.), Gilbert Brule (I thought he was pretty good. While other Oilers were dragging along, he was busting his ass.), Ryan Potulny (He scored the Oilers only goal with a nice/lucky shot.  Mind you that's all he did.), Gilbert/Souray Combo (They have been pretty good together lately and tonights game was no different. I liked them.), Zack Stortini (He had a pretty good tilt with Rick Rypien.  Probably a draw.)

------------------

JEERS

The EntireTeam - You guys sucked.  You are now on a six game losing streak.  You guys left your goalie hung out to dry.  In two games you have two goals. WTF? Boooooo!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): The Coaching Staff (Why do you guys insist on changing the lines all the time?  Leave Brule with Penner.  Leave Stone and Nilsson together.  And for god sakes... quit putting out Moreau and Staios in the 3rd period. They keep blowing games with stupid penalties.)

B&J #95 Edmonton Oilers Recap vs St. Louis Blues (12/11/09)

Welcome to Oilers Jambalaya - An Edmonton Oilers Hockey Blog. Beers & Jeers is a dual collaboration between Smokin' Ray and Paq Twinn. We hope you enjoy our Edmonton Oilers full game recap. We thank you for come here to read this recap.

------------------

- Who's Out? Who's in? Grebeshkov was rumored to be coming back in after being out for 13 games with a knee injury.  It was also rumored that both Sheldon Souray and Tom Gilbert are suffering from some sort of injuries.  However, nothing changed and the lines stayed the same.  Here is the link to the injury report.

- The Oilers continue their crazy run of road wins.  They have never won 5 straight road games all in one trip.  Does this make this current squad great?  And they did it without Hemsky?  WHAT!?!

BEERS

Dustin Penner - The flying fridge was on fire tonight.  He rattles off a 1 goal and 3 assists night.  Wow!  He made the puck look like it was metal and he was the magnet.  It was crazy.  With the Oilers trailing 3-0, Penner and his mates picked up the pace and started knocking in the puck.  Team Canada announces that he's on the short list.  Well no kidding.  All you have to do is watch him.  He can change a game much like he did tonight.  For a solid game, it's beer bong time. Cheers!

Gilbert Brule - This guy gets a wow as well.  WOW!  His uncanny chemistry with Penner continues and for the second time this year he has a two goal game.  2 goals and 1 assist to go along with a +4.  If that doesn't equal a good game then I must be a fLames fan.  Outstanding effort was shown by Brule tonight.  His first goal is what started the whole comeback.  Great game. It's Miller time. Cheers!

Sam Gagner - People are starting to wonder why he is playing on that 1st line.  I think tonight he showed why he can play there.  His vision is sick.  He sees stuff that most common NHL players can't.  He found Brule for his second goal in the high slot with a beauty pass.  The only thing cheesy about Gagner tonight was his goal. But who cares?  Take as you get them.  Good night tonight for Gags.  Frosty Budweiser? Cheers!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Jeff Deslauriers (He buckled down after a near leg injury.  He finished the game in top form.), Shawn Horcoff (He scores the winning goal and has a awesome night on faceoffs.  He was 20W-8L=73%  His shoulder was either very numb or he's feeling better.), Lubomir Visnovsky (He played pretty good tonight.  He involved in some great chances for the Oilers.), Tom Gilbert (He played well despite losing his defence partner.)

------------------

JEERS

Patrick O'Sullivan - Ok.  Enough is enough.  If I was Pat Quinn I would be grey.  Ok, so he is grey.  Well then I'd go bald because he's not playing hard and it looks like he doesn't give a crap.  Sure at times he wows us for a quick second or two.  But if Bobby Nilsson is making you look bad, then something is wrong.  If his play doesn't change soon, we can all expect his name to be caught up in rumors.  Bad game tonight. Boooooooo!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Ethan Moreau, Andrew Cogliano, Ryan Potulny (This line was -1 and they didn't create many chances. The worst Oiler line of the night.)

-------------------

GOAT WATCH

(Smokin' Ray) Ethan Moreau - He didn't play well.  He was Baaaad.

(Paq Twinn) Robert Nilsson - Also Baaaad.  But better than Moreau.

-------------------

OUR GAME SUMMARIES

Smokin' Ray - I'm a typical Oiler fan.  Up until the last 11 seconds of the 2nd period I was losing it.  I was snapping.  This team SUCKS!  But then Brule scores.  Ok, life's looking better I think to myself. Then the 3rd period the team gets rolling.  Not Stortini this time.  Nope.  It's the Penner show.  The Penner/Gagner/Brule line were the Oilers tonight.  Their never give up attitude won them this game.  That was a thing of beauty to watch. This team not only screws with your mind and heart, but they can also bring ecstasy.  I love this team. GOILERS!

Paq Twinn - WOW! The Oilers looked dead in the water tonight, losing 3-0 late in the 2nd. Then the 1st line took over. Brule scored with 10 sec left in the 2nd and teamed up with Pens and Gags to take over the game in the 3rd. All together the 1st line combined for 9 points as the Oilers scored 5 unanswered goals. Horc got the game winner for the 3rd time this road trip. That's how to earn that 7 mil and shut up your critics. As much as I love the win and a record 5 consecutive road game win streak, the Oilers left something to be desired during the first 40 mins. They looked like the slumping team of 2 weeks ago, in the 3rd they were the team that won 4 in a row. This team still struggles to find consistently, but they are getting better. The power play still needs work, they were brutal tonight, though Hemmer's absence may have something to do with it. Perhaps the most impressive part of the come back tonight, was that Souray got himself ejected for filling McCreary's ear with obscenities, and left the Oil with only 5 D for the 3rd period. Maybe that is what gave this team some life cause they had none before the misconduct to Souray. I have to break up this game grade.  Game Grade: 1st/2nd D, 3rd A

1st PERIOD

- Welcome to the LIVE *TweetCast* of the Oilers vs Kings.
- JDD will need another strong performance tonight. Kings have more fire power then Coyotes.
- Oilers roster and lines will remain unchanged from last game.
- Waiting for intro's, anthems and #puckdrop. GOILERS!
- Here we go, this game is underway.
- The pace has been average through the first 5 mins.
- Oilers need to push the pace in games like this. Kings look like tentative.
- With 11 mins remaining in the 1st, the action starts to pick up
- Souray cross checks Williams. Oilers PK 9:27 1st.
- Oilers kill it off. Moreau takes it hard to the net, big crash. Puck may have gone in, but ref waves it off.
- JDD makes a nice glove save. Playing good so far tonight.
- Oilers with good pressure late in 1st. 2 min warning
- Souray with a point shot that goes off Potulny. OILERS SCORE! 1-0 Oilers. 1:50 1st
- The 1st period is over.
- Slow start to this game by both teams. Oilers started to take it to the Kings more in the last 5 mins or so.

2nd PERIOD

- 2nd period is underway.
- Simmonds has scored to tie it up for the Kings. 1-1 Tie Game 12:00 2nd
- Handzus runs Hemmer into the end boards. Hemmer's a little shaken on the play.
- Handzus goes off for Boarding. Oilers PP, Hemmers out there for it.
- Potsy with a quick shot. had good position, in the slot.
- Thats all the Oil mange on that PP though.
- With what Potsy has brought since his call up, I have hard time seeing Nilsson sticking around much longer
- Brule and Horcoff combine for a nice chance. 7:20 2nd
- Pens gets tripped up, but its Gags that goes off for tripping Kopitar. Oilers PK 7:13 2nd
- Refs even it up. Frolov for tripping. 4on4 7:00 2nd
- Hemmer has left the bench and gone to the trainers room. Didn't feel right after the hit by Handzus.
- Quick flashes the leather on Patty-O's shot.
- Patty-O gets caught on a pick play. 2 min for interference. Oilers PK 2:32 2nd
- Things get heated as JDD freeze's the puck. Open season on Handzus, for hit on Hemmer.
- Patty-O gets the puck coming out of the box. Creates a chance and draws a penalty.
- Jones goes off for 2. :16 2nd
- After 2, its tied at 1 between the Oilers and the Kings
- Oilers to push the play more consistantly in the 3rd. That was a much better period for both teams.

3rd PERIOD

- 3rd period is underway. Oilers start with PP for 1:44.
- Oilers unload 3 shots as PP ends. I one hit the net, maybe.
- Patty-O has been moved up withe Gags and Pens.

- Gags gets a golden oppertunity, buts fires it over the open net.
- Tempers start to flare as Oilers bring some play of their own
- Coincedental minors with 11:03 3rd. 4on4
- Back to 5on5 as Cogs continues to have a good game, draws a penalty
- Simmonds 2 for holding. Oilers PP 8:41 3rd.
- Oilers can't get set up on the PP. Missing Hemmer big time.
- Kings, russian rookie, Lotionov gets nailed. Shaken up on the bench.
- 5 min to go in 3rd.
- Greene scores on a slapper from the point. 2-1 Kings 4:20 3rd
- Kings had been putting lots of pressure on the Oilers for a couple shifts before that goal.
- 2 min warning
- JDD robs Handzus after a nice rush from the Kings.
- Quinn calls timeout to get things organized. 1:11 3rd
- JDD has gone to the bench
- Frolov scores into the empty net. 3-1 Kings. :17 3rd,
- Game Over. Final Score Kings 3 - Oilers 1
 - That was a crappy ending to a decent game. Leaves me feelin all bummed out and stuff.
- JDD deserved better. He played great tonight.
- Thanks for following this Live *TweetCast*.  Next up, the Sharks on Fri. GOILERS!

------------------

BEERS

The 4th Line (Moreau/Cogliano/Potulny) - This line played like the #1 line.  I liked these guys tonight.  Potulny scores with a tip from a Souray blast.  Cogliano was a speed demon with license to kill.  And Moreau... the man looked like a bonafide NHL player.  What is going on here?  These three misfits combine for one super line.  Ok.  Maybe not super. But they were pretty good.  Here's a mini keg to spilt.  What?  There's still a recession going on. Cheers Boys!

Jeff Deslauriers - He had a good game.  It's too bad that the guys up front didn't play hard the entire game.  I did think that the Greene goal was a soft goal for JDD.  He should have seen it the whole way.  But despite that, he did ok in my books.  Maybe this (being the starter with Habbi being hurt) is a turning point in his career?  How about a cold one?  Cheers!

HONORABLE MENTION(S): Shawn Horcoff (He looked real good and was full of jam. *sends quarter to MacT* He some what made an impact to this game and that's the kind of effort the team needs from him.), Tom Gilbert (He had a solid game.  He didn't create a whole lot, but didn't give much up either.), Sam Gagner (He was dominant in the faceoffs and had a big night but finished -2 and the Oilers lost.), Sheldon Souray (He played mean and rough.  He had nice shots and picked up an assist because of one of them.),

------------------

JEERS

The Lack Of Effort- No one was bad enough to boo tonight.  I just wish the team would have had more effort in the 2nd.  Well I guess the lack of effort once again this game is worth a boo now that I think of it. Boooooo!

HONORABLE MENTION(S):

-------------------

GOAT WATCH

(Smokin' Ray) Ethan Moreau - This guy was actually good.  *spit*  I liked the other guy that I was yelling at last week.  *not really

(Paq Twinn) Robert Nilsson - Paq picked a good one here.  No play... no screwing up.  But he is skating again and may be back soon.  Yikes!

-------------------

OUR GAME SUMMARIES

Smokin' Ray - Sam Gagner was the little train that couldn't tonight.  He had the game in his hands more than twice and just couldn't quite get it done.  Tonight was his chance to be a game breaker and he fell short.  It's to bad too because he was flying in the 3rd.  I actually thought that the team was pretty good.  But it seemed like a boring game up until the middle of the 3rd.  Then the game got going.  O'Sullivan played good but still can't do squat.  I'm starting to wonder now who will go when all the guys (Stone, Pouliot, Nilsson, Grebeshkov) get healthy again?  Who goes?  *cough... nils... cough... son*  But this was a game that the Oilers should have and needed to win and didn't. Quinn is going to lose his mind soon.  These guys better get better.  Oh... and Tambo needs to figure sh*t out in a hurry.  ON A SIDE NOTE:  If Hemsky goes down for a few games, does that constitute as an emergency?  Hint, hint. EBERLE!

Paq Twinn - Decent game tonight, until it mattered most in the 3rd. The Oilers let the Kings do as they pleased. Through it all JDD had another great outing as a starter. Cogs also had a good game. Pens was kinda quiet and Gags, man wheve you gone? He's not a liability so much, but the #'s just aren't there anymore. Which brings me to this, there are a few 20 goal scorers that aren't even close to that pace. Patty-O, Cogs, Horc, Hemmer and even Gags should score 20 or more but are nowhere near that pace. Another 2 points lost due to lack of secondary scoring. Game Grade: C
