RNH SHUTDOWN FOR REMAINDER OF SEASON!

That's the headline that should be on every website, newspaper, any other media outlet and most importantly, from the lips of the Oilers management.

Last season the Oilers management made a decision that they knew full well, was going to be extremely unpopular. With approx. 20 games remaining and they're prized 1st overall pick freshly on the shelf with a sprained ankle, Tambellini and company SHUTDOWN Taylor Hall, rather then risk any further injury that could jeopardize the future of the Oilers and Hall. It was brave, bold and something no Oilers fan has come to expect, SMART.

Which brings me to here and now. When drafted anyone and their dog would tell you, "He's too small to play with men."

Well after bringing the Oilers faithful and most of the NHL out of there chairs on a nightly basis for half the season, maybe we are now seeing that he may have been too small. His HOF hockey sense and vision were almost enough to overcome his waffer thin body, but after suffering one and then two, shoulder injuries it makes no sense to me to bring him back into the lineup.

The Future...
The 'Nuge has nothing left to prove when it comes to his abilities. Anyone with an ounce of intelligence can clearly see he was the rookie of the year. None of the other rookies captivated the league the way 'Nuge did. Besides, the Oilers have how many Hall of Famers...6....and how many Calder Trophy winners....0. Sure it would be nice, but if Gretz, Mess, Andy, Kurri, Coff and Fuhrsy didn't need it to be great then the 'Nuge doesn't either.

This is also a great chance to both reward Anton Lander for being the good soldier on the 4th line all season, and to see just exactly what he has to offer if given top six minutes and PP time......and Paajarvi too for pete's sake! I mean why not give them a shot with Ebs or Hall???!!!

In the end the Oilers should do the right thing for their and Ryan's future. Here's what should be said...

"Ryan we are shutting you down for the season. Heal up, rehab the shit out of that shoulder, hit the gym and come to camp ready to go at 178-182lbs. See you in September."

So come on Tambo, K-Lowe, or Katz, make that same BOLD, BRAVE, UNPOPULAR, and most impotantly, SMART decesion again. Hopefully it's the last time it will have to be made.

  1. How exactly would bulking up prevent him from losing his footing and sliding into the boards? Or are you implying that extra muscle would have prevented him from getting hurt when he actually hit the boards?
I don't see how his size is the main reason he got hurt.

  2. you need to remember RNH out bench presses Taylor Hall and Jordon Eberle. The kid is tough. i know what your saying but imo it is not a question of his size or strength. he looks small but the kid is tough. it was a fluke play that could have happened to anyone. i do agree they need to take time with him to heal. its obvious they did not do that and again he is re-injured

    1. And Eberle and Paajarvi and Gagner etc etc weren't pressed last year when Tayler was shutdown? Im missing your point.

    2. my point was his injury wasnt a result of being small. also was just saying hes much tougher than many think

  3. The initial injury was a freak occurrence, that said a little more muscle between the shoulder pad and tendons / bone would be beneficial. Especially when it comes to preventing damage along the lines of what happened when he re-injured the shoulder.

  4. Comment from a regular reader - you lose a LOT of credibility with a headline like that. Worse, it gets picked up elsewhere & a shitstorm ensues. Do you really want to be "that site" that gets ignored everywhere?

    Think about it.

    1. A "shit storm" is what I was going for. This topic needs attention, for the Oilers best interests going forward.

    2. Just wanted to add that though I was trying to create some discussion, I will be taking your advice under consideration in the future. Thanks for the input.

    3. Fine. I'll just mark you down as "unreliable rumour mongers" then, shall I?

Disappointing. I've agreed or disagreed with what's been written on this site, but this is the first time I've been outright lied to.

    4. Yeah thats right, we're eklund. Pfft If you can't get past an attention grabbing headline, and what the piece is ACTUALLY about, thats your problem. Misleading headlines are everywhere so what ever you do, keep judging that book by the cover....errr...title.

  5. I never said it wasn't a fluke injury....the first time. I don't know how anyone would think his lack of size had nothing to do with the second. Futher more that was not the point to take away from this. Is it really worth it to come back and possibly injure that shoulder again?! REALLY?! Jepordizing his future by coming back this season is pointless. He has shown he CAN play. Come back healthy and stronger next year. And if you think adding a few pounds of muscle is not his problem.......How long will a 174-176 pound center last during a strectch drive and playoff run? The fact of the matter is, he needs to add some muscle, if he is going to last longer then his entry level deal.

    1. Come on man. Anyone who comes back too early from an injury (regardless of size), is susceptible to reinjury. Also, his first injury could have just as easily occurred in junior hockey. Credibility, hmmm.

    2. Would you bring him back this season? Why? Playoff push-no chance. Show he can play? Been there done that. Do you think his frame can withstand the rigures of going through a playoff push, and then up to 28 of the hardest fought games of the season? I sure as hell don't. The only thing that happens if he comes back this season is a poorer draft position and a risk of injury that is simply not worth it.

    3. i do know what your saying and i agree he needs to heal before coming back but i do not think sitting all season would be close to the answer. he needs to play but only when healthy

  6. The credibility of this site has come into question today. This was not my intention, to make people think we are spreading outright lies. The purpose of the headline was to make people question as to wether or not the Oilers management is handling RNH's injury intelligently. I don't believe they are. I like what they did with Tayler last year. Nothing good was going to come of his coming back and the same goes for Ryan. If you look at this sites body of work, we speak our minds, offer opinions and report the goings on within the Oilers organization. I realize I blurred those lines today. This is in no way the direction of the site, to fabricate facts. Personally I will always try and "stir the pot", its what I do. However I will be more careful of the headlines I choose to use. I appreciate all of our readers and don't want any thinking we spread lies as thats not what we do here.

  7. Something that escaped me earlier today is this.... If Oilers management thought it nesscesary to shut Tayler down for something as insignificant as a sprained ankle. Why then, are they not taking the same precautionary stance with what is obviously a more complex problem to a more complex body part?????? This is the issue that needs to be addressed. Is Ryan not as important to the future as Tayler? I sure as hell don't think so but I question what management thinks, when they try to push it under the rug and say its not serious. Sprained ankles aren't serious. Two shoulder injuries in a bit over a month are.

    1. i actually believe in the future Hall will play third fiddle behind RNH and Eberle. Hall is and will be a very good player but ive always said he plays a reckless game and doesnt have the skill of either RNH or Eberle. dont get me wrong, a reckless game is actually good when played right and Hall plays it very good but because of it i dont see him being ahead of either of those 2. one thing Hall will excell at imo is leading this team though.

    2. I couldn't have sued it up better. Messier and Hall are excellent comparisons, niethwr had mind blowing skills but both have/had the ability to put the team on his back and "will" the team to victory. It Ebs and RNH that are blessed with, as Gregor put it, hands like margerine.

  8. can you really not spell TAYLOR? not Tayler, TAYLOR. between that and the headline, you're not making much of a case to be taken seriously.

    1. I am aware. I named my son "Tayler" and became slightly confused while writing. My bad. Won't happen again.
