THE MEAT AND POTATOES

The Good:

- I sure do like Aaron Johnson. He scores a goal, had an assist, threw 4 hits and had 4 shots. Not bad for a guy who I thought would be a plug. He's looking like a 3/4 guy. Wow!
- I like Peckham. He's feisty and doesn't mind throwing the ham bones. He just needs to improve on his skating I think he will be alright.
- Robert Nilsson was a whole different player. He had that jam that was missing for quite a number of games. He even scored a goal and had multiple chances.
- I really like the line of Penner/Cogliano/Brule. They did pot one and played pretty solid.
- I liked how Dubnyk played. He did let in a softie, but did OK.
- Jason Strudwick made it through a full game and ended up +1. *claps hands*
- I thought that Taylor Chorney was way better this game. He played like a real NHL player. He had a team high, 5 blocked shots.

The Not So Good:

- Pouliot has no chemistry with Gagner so why does Quinn continue to have them together?
- Ethan Moreau is a 4th line guy. End of story.
- The real Shawn Horcoff showed up. -2 on the night.
- Ryan Whitney may have played a lot, but he ended the night a team worst -3.
- Tom Gilbert was no better. He was also a -3. So much for the dynamic duo.
- I barely noticed Mike Comrie out there. Did he even play? He did?  Right... he was -3.

DID YOU KNOW? (Facts About The Edmonton Oilers)

Did you know... Pat Quinn's next win will be his 679th in the NHL?

Did you know... last game against the Leafs, Andrew Cogliano scored his 100th and 101st career NHL points?

Did you know... Sam Gagner is one point away from reaching 40 points this season?

OILERS (21-40-7) at BLUE JACKETS (27-31-11)

Devan Dubnyk Wins His First Game?

I woke up this morning from a great sleep and I had a crazy dream last night. Devan Dubnyk won his first game tonight vs the Blue Jackets.

Not only did he win, he won it in style. Huge glove saves, stacking of the pads and there was even a penalty shot.

I have no idea if he is playing tonight (wait till morning skate) or not, but if he does, he will get the win. GODUBNYK!

My Take: Doug Sauter by OilField Hockey

I am going to start off "My Take" on things hockey here. For my 1st edition of "My Take" on the blog. I am going to look if former Oklahoma City Blazers' coach Doug Sauter should be on the coaching staff.

This is a touchy subject for most Oklahoma City Hockey fans. The feelings towards Doug Sauter, is that there are some who love him. But there are those fans who don't think he couldn't coach a side of a barn. There is no doubt Sauter's coaching record seems pretty stellar at first glance. The Blazers only made it to the post season 11 out 14 seasons, during Sauter's tenure in Oklahoma City. So here's the post season breakdown, out of 4 times making to the final round.

The Blazers split the difference by winning two championships in 1995-96 and 2000-01 seasons. Sauter and his team never made it past the 1st round of playoffs four times. Then they never made it passed the 2nd round three times. If you look at his total winning percentage over his 14 years. His record comes out to be with a winning percentage of .556 percent.

Do I think Sauter should part of the coaching staff here in Oklahoma City? No. I think he has a great persona about him, which could make him useful in finding some talent to bring here. If he gets on to the coaching staff, it shouldn't be behind the bench.

He should be someone who sits in the crowd to look at things from a different perspective. No one can mistake him for who he is in Oklahoma City, and what he did here. I believe it's time for the torch to be passed to a new coach, who just maybe can return glory to Oklahoma City hockey history.
