Thank You Springfield Falcons!

Just like that, the Springfield Falcons are now under control of the Columbus Blue Jackets. Check out the website. It's changed. No more Edmonton Oilers.

I want to thank the Springfield Falcons for working with us at Oilers Jambalaya this season. Your hospitality was greatly appreciated. Good luck to your team next year.

Common Themes - A Look Into The Past

I would have to think with Souray coming out and speaking his mind like this about the management team is true, you really need to step back and look at things again.

Souray was quoted as saying, "I wasn’t even ready to play when I came here, but it was like, ‘We signed you, you go out and play.’ I hadn’t been cleared to play yet, but I was being questioned by the organization:‘When are you going to be able to play?’".

Wow! If this statement has any merit and it's true, then I'm shocked.

Souray also had this to say, ""I got challenged by management on the very first day of my first training camp. The very first day," he said. "They said, ‘When are you going to play?’ I said, ‘I have a six month (shoulder) injury and I’m at five months.’ But I played."

Again. Wow!

But, if you look at another player in this organization, I could see what Souray is saying as true.

Nikolai Khabibulin: He was signed in the summer as "damaged goods". The Oilers knew full well what they were getting into with Khabbi. They knew he couldn't pull a Luongo and go 70 something games. Yet, when the season started, how many games did Khabbi play before he was hurt? How many games did Jeff Deslauriers play as a backup?

Khabbi played 4 games to start the year in a row, with JDD getting in for one. Khabbi then played 5 games straight, while again, JDD plays one. Then he plays 6 and sits for one before playing 3 more and he's done for the year.

Why was Khabibulin played so much? Who made that choice? Bucky? Quinn? Tambellini? Lowe? Katz?

That was a real stupid move on someone's part and seeing what Souray said, I'd put some blame on Tambellini. Wouldn't you?

Seeing what Souray says, it all makes sense. In fact, I bet there is a lot of stories like this out there. *cough* Staios. *cough* concussion.

Big Sexy Is No Longer Sexy!

The Oilers finished the season off on a very low note, dropping a 7-2 decision to the Mighty Ducks. Deslauriers looked dreadful and the whole team stumbled into the off season. But a few hours after the end of the game, Sheldon Souray's official "I want a trade" demand comes out via a story from Spector at Sportsnet.

So aside from some nice timing, this story makes the artist formerly known as Big Sexy look like an absolute diva. Wah wah wah, no one is holding my hand. Wah wah wah, no one is calling me even after I was selfish, went after Iginla, broke my hand and ruined any chance to move me before the trade deadline. Wah wah wah, they demanded I play hurt. Wah wah wah, I could have went elsewhere for more money.

Honestly, this interview makes it more difficult to trade you Sheldon. Why are you going public? You're not endearing yourself to anyone. I don't know if any of this temper tantrum is accurate but I do not like the public thrashing you are doing of my Oilers. Sure I may not sure agree with the management of this team from time to time, but this seems like a jilted boyfriend who is upset that his girl (Oilers) don't want him anymore.

So if players are leaving with a smile on their faces, don't worry Sheldon, the fans will be smiling when you finally depart. Enjoy doucheland with Prongs.

Edit: The more I think about this article, the more uneasy I am about the direction of this team. Katz needs to look into this and if they are pressuring players to return from injury too soon (which has made the rumor mill), that is completely unacceptable and heads should roll.

THE MEAT AND POTATOES

Game Notes:

- The Oilers were killed right from the get go. It was so sad to see this in the last game of the year. In fact, it didn't get any better. The slaughter continued for a full 60 minutes. The final shot count was 45-31 in favor of the Ducks.

The Good:

- There wasn't much good tonight. Mike Comrie scored his 4th goal in 3 games. That was great to see. I started the question, "Should the Oilers resign Mike Comrie next season?". The response surprised me. We all know why we hated the guy previously, but most people that replied were in favor of bringing Mike back. Not for a lot of money though. He'd need to sign cheap.

- Ryan Whitney played pretty good. He had a goal and an assist and played hard against his old team. I was surprised to hear the Ducks fans boo Whitney. I know I won't boo him. I quite like him.

- For the first time this year, Patrick O'Sullivan was the best on the team in +/- with a +2 rating. What's up with that?

- I also thought that Tom Gilbert again played good.

- Zack Stortini was a dominant with 8 wins 4 losses for 67% on faceoffs. Wow! Kind of a shocking stat.

The Not So Good:

- Jeff Deslauriers ended our who's better conversation from yesterday tonight. Deslauriers is not the guy we choose. WE WANT DUBNYK!

- I'm glad that I don't have to watch the Chorney(-3)/Strudwick(-2) train wreck anymore this year. They were brutal again tonight.

- The Linglet/Pouliot/Jones line was brutal tonight. They were not only on for three goals against, they were part of the problem.

- I can't (well, I can) believe that the Oilers crap in the bed in the last game of the year. Was this a telling tale for the fate of the two goalies? Was this a last glimpse of Moreau, Pisani and Souray (I know he wasn't playing)?

The Side Dish:

- The Falcons played tonight and were the opposite of the Oilers. Yes, they won their game. Here is the recap.
