OKC Barons vs Houston Aeros Video Highlights

The NHL Lockout Provides Oklahoma City With A Boost

Oklahoma City
Everyone knows that with the lingering NHL lockout that's going on, the Edmonton Oilers have sent down a couple of their young stars to Oklahoma City to play with the Barons.

Jordan Eberle, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Justin Schultz, Anton Lander and when ready and healed, Taylor Hall are going to be in the OKC Barons lineup.

This is a once in a lifetime (probably not now with Bettman still in charge) opportunity for the people of Oklahoma City to come out and watch some very good NHL talent play right in their own back yard.

Jordan Eberle was a Lady Byng finalist this year. He piled up the numbers while playing a gentleman's game. He's classy through and though. To have him around your community is something to cherish and embrace. He's a great ambassador of the game.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was a finalist for the Calder trophy which is awarded to the NHL's top rookie. Some say he should have won. Who better to be a part of your hockey club to show what hard work really is than RNH? His work ethic will rub off on the rest.

When he's ready to play again in a couple of weeks, Taylor Hall is going to bring leadership to the team like they have never seen before. He oozes a winning attitude and no doubt, he will help bring the team to new heights in their quest to winning the Calder Cup.

Let's not forget the fact they still have Oilers prospect Magnus Paajarvi on the team. He's a year older and another year wiser. I'm expecting a big year from him too before he can make the jump to the Oilers.

Oklahoma City is extremely lucky to be getting these guys. Coach Nelson was given an NHL top line to have at his disposal. I can guarantee he isn't going to squander this. You can hear it in his voice, he's excited.
Not only are the OKC Barons going to flourish because of the NHL lockout, so will the ECHL affiliate, the Stockton Thunder. With the Barons gaining a few new players, that means they are taking spots from guys up there. Those guys will go down to Stockton until a spot becomes available with the Barons.

Goaltender Tyler Bunz and at least 3 other players will be sent to the Stockton to play in the ECHL with the Thunder. It could even be more.

The ripple effect has begun. Enjoy this Oklahoma City, it won't last forever.

REVS Top 15 NHL Draft Prospects "#2. Seth Jones"

#2. Seth Jones

At 6'4 and 205 lbs, Seth is no easy pushover on the ice. Scouts and GM's are already dreaming of what it would be like to have this great defensive beast on their blueline protecting their 'Guardians of the crease'.  He has a late birthday, otherwise was close to going in last years draft. It is unlikely he changes much size wise. He has made the jump this year from USNTDP to the WHL Portland Winterhawks after his rights were traded from Everett. Scouts tell everyone he has potential franchise defencemen capability at the NHL level. Some will argue he is good enough to be ranked #1, but I don't see it whatsoever. He may have no place but to drop in ranking by years end due to a lack of high offensive potential but don't let that scare you off. It's the same every year with defencemen and going #1 OV.

Below is a chart from Eliteprospects of his stats...

Seth Jones  was born October 3, 1994 and an American born player. When Jones finished his career with the U.S. National U18 Team, he had to make a choice whether to play his draft year season with the North Dakota Fighting Sioux or the Everett Silvertips. His rights were picked up by the Winterhawks of the WHL and he signed shortly after.

BrInG oN tHe BaRoNs of hOcKeY!

When I think of the name Barons, I think of Cleveland of the NHL. You can always tell someones age by the discussion they have. (Unless your a hockey buff on hockey history). I never got to see the Cleveland Barons in their day, but did collect some of their hockey cards early on. I loved their name and their uniforms, so I collected all their cards and even team photo shots.

Cleveland had its short lived history and the rest speaks for itself. Would love to see Cleveland back in the NHL but we all know it is not happening anytime soon.

SHORT CLIP OF THE CLEVELAND BARONS

Speaking of Barons, I can not but help thinking of 'Snoopy and the Red Baron'.
Snoopy was always one of my favourites in watching Charlie Brown. The whole 'Red Baron' storyline just made it even more interesting.

SHORT CLIP OF SNOOPY AND THE RED BARON

Having just now gone through a moment in time, the name BARON has taken on a whole new meaning in 'OIL COUNTRY'. It now means future to me. It means winning, it means competitive hockey, it means a new culture of development. Granted, The OKC Barons are LOADED this year but even with Eberle, Nugent-Hopkins AND Schultz. they were a good team. With two of Oil Country's beloved hockey heroes developing their chemistry stateside in OKC, its going to be a interesting year no matter how many games they play in the AHL. Should Hall join them in the near future, it will go nuclear!

The Oilers can be faulted for many mistakes over the years but they also deserve credit where it is due as well. They have put a good culture into their AHL team and are not rushing players up from the AHL like in years past. Part of it is a luxury they now have, but the blueline in OKC of NHL contracted players have some incredible potential moving forward. For now, this is one hockey fan who will be wasting money on AHL live to see my beloved Oiler prospects in action and building chemistry for the future.

Their is a Baron on the loose, and its in OKC. Look out AHL, the OKC BARONS are taking over!
